What is the best entrance to get to Fishing Bridge Campground in Yellowstone, coming from Alabama???? Also, we're thinking 3 to 3 1/2 days driving time to get there. Is that about right??? Thanks in advance for your help.

East entrance through Cody, probably. Driving time, I have no idea, depends on how many miles you do in a day.

By FAR the easiest entrance is from the South through the Teton Park but coming in from the East through Cody is a lot more scenic. I guess it all depends on what "BEST" means to you. I don't think I'd want to make that trip in 3 days though. Too much great stuff along the way that you'd miss with that kind of forced drive. good luck / Skip

Thanks for the info. I was thinking East may be best. We have reservations at Fishing Bridge for 9 days, then 3 days at Colter Bay, so we'll be leaving through the South entrance. We both work so we have a total of about 18 or 19 days for the entire trip. We'd love to have more time for sightseeing along the way, but that's not much of an option YET.......we want to spend most of our time in the Yellowstone/Teton area.

Wow, 9 days at FB, that's awesome, you are really going to see a LOT in that time. Don't miss going to the cute little border town of Gardiner and walk around.

just curious Happycamper. We are going to stay at Colter Bay for 3 days and then head up to Yellowstone for 11 days. When are you folks heading that way?

Outdoor Life,
We should be there the first 2 weeks of June. When are you going????
This is our first trip West so we are open to any and all suggestions. I have bought several books on the area but it's always best to get information from this site. Always lots of good advice.
Thanks in advance.

I think the East entrance would be best to take to Fishing Bridge.
Now for travel time to YNP I would plan on 4 days, it takes me 3 long days of 8/9 hours driving time. JMHO

First two weeks of June, make sure to take some heavier clothing (sweatshirts, jackets - stuff you can layer); it's likely to be chilly, especially at night (even more especially for Alabamians). Binoculars recommended too, for the wildlife - likely to be some animal babies around.
Ditto on the 4 days of travel time one way, minimum. You'll need to allow some time for rest stops, photo ops, etc. We usually take 4 days from here (and we're closer), driving 7-9 hours a day.

We are arriving at the Grand Canyon on June 10th and travel north towards the Grand Tetons on the 14th. Colter Bay from the 15th to the 17th and then onto Madison Campground in Yellowstone 18th thru the 20th and the 21st thru the 24th in West Yellowstone. It is our first trip west also. Our orginal plan was not to go to the Grand Canyon but my wife was able to get some more vacation time. I was going to enter YNP at the east entrance.
