I'm looking a two different routes from the Grand Canyon to the Grand Tetons. From Idaho Falls take 26 to Swan Valley. Then highway 31 to Victor. Highway 22 over Teton Pass to Jackson. This article I have says you can avoid the Teton Pass (10% grade).

Is the Teton Pass that steep and just how hard a pull is it? I will be pulling a 31' travel trailor.

Yes it's that steep and long. Holding everything back on the way down can be harder. While anything is possible but why when for a extra 25+ miles you can go south to 26 and come in from the south to Jackson. Heres a link that will save you the cost of going around.
I like this USFS CG 8 miles east of Moran Junction. $10/night
Only one site big enough for my 42' and toad but CG is usually almost empty. There is water but you need a cut off hose end to go over the smooth water valve.

Postings I have read on this forum and also a friend that I work with suggest NOT taking Teton Pass due to the 10% grade. Plan on coming in from the south. When DW and I visited a couple of years ago, we took the route around Bear Lake and came into Jackson from the south. I'm sure others will give you more information. Hope you have a great trip.

I just answered one of you other posts on what route to take from Grand Canyon. Teton Pass is about as hard of pull as you are apt to run in to on your trip. I have done it several times in a MH but it is a tuff pull.Check out the rout I laid out for you on the other post. It is alot of 2 lane but good high way. I beleive the route Red Eagle is refering to is 89.

Teton Pass is a nice drive, but not pulling a trailer. It is 10% for several miles on each side. Almost as nice is to stay on US 26 to Alpine, WY, then head north to Jackson on US 26/89 as Ivylog suggested. It goes along the Snake River and Pallisades Reservoir.

A good reference is Mountain Directory West, www.mountaindirectory.com.

I towed westward over Teton Pass once, and going downhill I had to shift to first gear to hold back my popup. That said, in first gear it wasn't the least bit scary or dangerous... but the folks behind me weren't happy with my slowness.

Good advice from everyone here. Yes, avoid Teton Pass and instead go to the next pass area - Alpine Junction and in through Moran Junction. We've towed over Teton Pass with our 19' TT and it was very scary to say the least - with our current TT - 32' - no way. Park your TT and drive over it instead to get a feel and see the sights. Wise advice from everyone here. Just to give you an idea, even the CG hosts at Colter Bay advise all RV'ers to go around through Alpine Junction.
