Yes, I think it's a bit early to begin camping! However, we live in NC and will be traveling to E. Lansing, MI next weekend to take delivery of our new Jayco 32 BHDS!! We need your suggestions and recommendations for a place to stay on the way back; Columbus looks about the right distance before the kids get too restless. Thanks for any help you provide.

state parks - Delaware, Alum Creek, or Dillon. I don't know your exact route.

Cross Creek Campground is very nice. It is right across the street from Alum Creek State park in Delaware. Also Buckye Lake Koa east of Columbus.

Another vote for Cross Creek if you want full hookups. Depending on the size of your unit, Alum Creek is more woodsy....but no sewer hookups. We've been at Cross Creek several times and it is an extremely well-run campground.

No problem. Studded snow tires on the trailer was one of the options I negotiatated -- allows for year-round use! Combined with the snow plow on the front of the 'ol 6.0L F250, we should do fine on our inaugural camping trip in Ohio!

Hi!
If you are north of Columbus either Alum Creek SP or Delaware SP are great choices - both have lakes with beaches. I prefer Delaware SP - sites are spacious and is has less of a party reputation. If you end up at Alum Creek SP or Cross Creek, you MUST go to Cheshire Market for pizza or subs. Send me a PM if you would like more information/advice on the central Ohio area. There is lots to see and do.

We are from Columbus area.
Check out Ohio Camper. Since we're not sure what Interstate you're traveling but this might help.
We have camped at a few of the State Parks south of Columbus. Most are Electric & Water. But our favorite State Park by far is Salt Fork. It intersecs with I-70 & I-77 at Cambridge, Ohio.
PM me if you have any questions.

You don't say whether you want a campground just for a quick overnight, or for a longer stay. You did say you're coming up next week, so I doubt the lure of beaches in the state parks are going to be a big selling point. Brrrrrr. We got 20" of snow yesterday and today, so there aren't many signs of Spring up here yet (late April is about when things start budding in earnest around here).
Your biggest issue is going to be finding CGs that are open this early in the season, so plan ahead, use the Internet, check web sites, etc. Many private CGs in this area are seasonal, including our sons' favorite KOA just east of Columbus (Buckeye Lake KOA - not open until April 1).
As for the state parks, I think many (if not most/all) are open year round, but they typically are much more sedate (read: boring for active young boys) than private CGs, especially in the off season. My sons like the planned activities and company of other kids typically found at private CGs, particularly for stays longer than overnighters.
Of course, if you're just spending the night, that kind of stuff won't matter to you anyway.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We ended up spending Saturday evening at Cross Creek. What a great location and facility; not to mention the staff. Everything was to our liking. The pads were really soft, but what could one expect following a 22" snow that had completely disappeared in the preceding 4 days?!
All in all just what we needed. Our first night in our first trailer was a success. Landed safely back in Cary, NC this evening.
Thanks again for you help.
