Just wanted to see what everyone was carrying in the event of a flat tire? Ramps, jacks, tire iron, electric impact, etc?

Torin 2 stage 2 ton jack This unit will get under the axle with the tire flat and still have enough lift.
Tire iron in the truck fits fine. Jack goes just fine under the axle U-bolt.

Hi,

If you ever tried to lift a 11,000 pound axle with a 3 ton jack, then you will understand why I have a 6 ton jack. Each pump of the jack moves it slower, but it is easier to push down the jack handle on a higher tonnage jack for a given weight, because of the mechanical advantage of the jack.

Yes I have road service, and IF I ever broke down in town, across the street from someone that can fix my RV, I might give them a call. But it seems every flat tire has happened about 85 miles from someplace, so I just keep changing them myself.

What I recomend everyone carry is at least a spare tire - mounted is better, but even unmounted if it is a 19.5" or larger, that is good because a road service can install a tire they have in hand, but not one that is 200 miles away or out of stock.

I also have stainless steel wheel trim rings, and they require a special 1-1/16" socket to remove them. Not to special, unless you are 100 miles from town and don't have one!

I also have a deep 7/8" socket and a 24" long wrench required to torque it to 130 foot pounds. 19.5" and larger tires require even more pressure, so the AAA card will come in handy.

I also put down my leveling jacks just to "Level" the RV, not to lift the tire off the ground, that would be hazardous. But taking off 5,000 pounds from the rear axle helps when jacking it up, and the RV does not shake as much when big rigs go by at 65 MPH!

It also helps to have some towles to clean up, and a few gallons of water to take a shower - if required. If it is raining, then rain gear (but that has not happened to me yet).

Fred.

We carry an 8 ton bottle jack. Just lifting the axle doesn't mean the whole trailer is on the jack. Do it at home and see what is needed. Waiting for service isn't always very fast but depending on your health and where the problem is on the road makes good sense to call AAA. chevman
