When I grew up, my family camped quite a bit. Part of the reason for this was that at any time, we belonged to at least 2 (and for a while 3) "Camping Clubs". These "Clubs" were groups of people (usually from around the area), who formed a "club" and would schedule monthly camp outs. The club would schedule their campouts at the end of the previous camping season. The club would contact the scheduled campgrounds and reserve spots for the "club". Because there was usually at least 20 campers scheduled to camp for the culb outing, they could sometimes negotiate better rates with the campground owners or reserve the use of a building for potlucks and gatherings in the event the weather didn't cooperate. The clubs even had Christmas parties in the Off Season. One of these clubs (some 20+ years after the participants have retired and become too unsure of themselves towing campers and camping) meets weekly for breakfast to this day!
I'm wondering if these types of clubs still exist in the world and if so, how we could find out if there is a club nearby that we might be interested in joining?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
If you cannot find a group in your area, why not start your own?. Thats what we did. The Good Sams chapter close to us was not a good fit for us so we got together with a group of like minded campers in our work (hospital) and over the last year we've grown to 15 families. Because of our varied work schedules at work its hard to do organized camps more than a few weekends during the season--but whenever one of us is going out we post it on our outlook camping email and those who can join us. Because we dont have alot of free time, we tend to camp closer to home so that we can leave from work Friday and return home Sunday. When we are not camping, we will gather for other social events. Oh by the way we call ourselves the VA Vagabonds and have all types of campers in our group from tenters to fancy motorhomes
