Was out at El Mirage yesterday for day trip riding and saw a vistors center under construction. Along with the paved road and cable fencing to control cross road atv's I like the improvements but waiting for the daily and or annual charging to start occuring. Not happy about that.

Also was a accident on the lake bed. A street cycle was down and looked like the rider was in the ambulance. Maybe he was speed riding across the lake bed. Crazy.

Pretty croweded out there yesterday. Wonder how crowded it will be when they start to charge to ride and camp there.

I think the street cycle hit a quad. The victim on a quad is a 62 y.o. grandfather. Both were thrown about 80 ft. He was last in the line of 6-7 quads with little ones in front of him. I got this info from a co-worker that went out there to retrieve camping rigs left out there. He said the street bike was entangled with the quad and it blew the front end off the quad.

I was also out at ElMo over the weekend. I don't know whether my tolorance for recklessness was low, or whether the idiots were out in full force, but it did seem to me as if there were a lot of out of control riders/drivers yesterday. I was very nervous for my Four year old.

I for one, am happy see the visitors center, and don't mind having to pay a few bones. My hope is that with the new visitors center and the new fees that this will serve two purposes:
1 - Weed out the rif raff. Hopefully with the fees, the BLM will hire more rangers and patrol the area better.
2 - Preserve the OHV area. I read last week that the military base at 29 palms wants to annex some of the Johnson Valley riding area. Our riding areas are diminishing every year. If a measley daily or anuall fee helps ensure that we'll have a place to ride, I'll gladly pay it.

I realize these are hopes, and not necessarily reality, but so far, I like the improvements and old ElMo.

Saw a lot of out of control riders as well. A lot on the lake bed. Saw to young teaanage girls riding a sport quad double with no helmits. Another teenager or young adult rider hauled ass between our truck and another right where we had to small riders. Actually had to confront that one and ask very politly to do us a favor and slow down when he gets close to other vehicles like that.

It was weird, we normally see the partrol at least once and mostly twice while we are there. Didn't see them once Sunday or we would of reported those girls.
