Can you even hear it when it is running? Have you thought about adding an electric fan to the box to help keep it cool? Great work!

Dave: Great job!!!! Having worked in the aircraft industry for 29 years, I can spot the work of someone that also does this for a living!

Wish I had known you were at the race. We drove in Sunday before day light.

You don't need a extra fan. All the hot cooling air and the engine exhaust come out of the grille on the end of the generator. Do like I suggested Dave do and seal with foam around that grille to the opening in the end of your box. That isolates the incoming cold cooling air from the hot exhausted cooling air. The engines internal fan will take care of moving the air. I have several hundred hours on my EU1000i in the box and not a problem. I have temperature probed inside the box with the engine running with 50% load and the temp is generally 5° or less above outside temp. The key is to isolate the incoming from the out going air so they can't mix.

Dave . . . I couldn't help but wonder if that was a product that many RV'ers would love to purchase.

I was wondering whether is was worth reproducing in bulk and selling then through places like Camping World.
I would think most people would want the gas tank just for the additional run time. The front carrier might not be for everyone. The gas tank is a relatively easy mod to do. The only real problem is with the new gas tanks. The older ones where you could use the little vent would have been a lot nicer. As far as reproducing the box, if I spent that much time in the garage again I would be a bachelor in no time.

Awesome project Dave, I had my brother in law the welder fabricate me a box for my Honda 2000 also. Its attached to a Hitch Haul platform that plugs into the front receiver, although not as elaborate as yours, its the width of the gen. placed in the center of the platform with 2 lock hasps and a stainless steel hinged cover, the front is partially opened for access to the exhaust and the rear for the elec. connections. I have only used it once stationary and was wondering how you place camper elec. line while driving. Thanks Lou
I’m not going to be using it while driving although I’ve read of some others who have placed a plug in their truck bed and ran a permanent wire up to the front of the truck. I have thought that would be very nice. Maybe just a little pigtail with a plug mounted near the bumper? I still don't think I would use it while driving.

Yes, I can hear it when we are in the cab-over but we cannot feel it at all. I had considered it but Hayes specifically states that the “Note: no fan required for the EU2000i version”. Also, the 2000i has a very good fan built in. It pulls plenty of air through the box. air flow test

Where did you stay? Did you bring the camper? I saw very few TC’s there. Most of them were old and rather run down. Did you work for the big “D”? I’m in my 19th year. Thanks for the positive comments everyone. I’ve only used it for one weekend but I’m very pleased with the results. My buddy (who’s camper we towed down to the race so we could be on his spot in the infield) was always gassing up his genny. We had to refill after 38 hours. That was mostly running the fridge, 1000 watt heater (which ran a lot), and the occasional hair dryer. Dave.

Dave you have done a great job. Looks very professional. I run a pretty big rack on the front of my truck and in august I have a Honda eu3000 that I put on the rack, the truck still cools fine and the genny is right in front of the grill so you should have no problems there again great job

do you have plans for this set up? I would be willing to pay for a parts list and any plans you have. What a great idea!

Nice Work.

Could a front end fender bender turn into a gasoline fire?
