We have 2008 S&T and a basic Garmin C330. I agree the Micro-Soft will do all sorts of things the Garmin won't but if I could only have one to get me to the right location it would be the C330, no question

That's exactly what we did. We already had S&T 2006 with GPS and upgraded to the 2008 version (without GPS). I believe it was under $40 on Amazon.

My Garmin had so many routing errors it was a joke. I think the oil companies wrote the routing program for Garmin.

bettynlen, in 2007 MS went with the new faster chip set in the GPS unit for S & T. I was using 2006 and had problems with disconnects, etc. in the mountains and tall trees of the mountain west. With the 2007 complete package, software and GPS, the problems disappeared for me. It is a much improved product IMHO. I added the 2008 software but haven't used it enough yet to decide if it is much better than the 2007 version. The maps for this area of Florida seem more complete but none of them will ever catch up with our growth.

I have owned the Street & Trips 2006 with GPS. I bought the 2008 S&T without the GPS, thinking to use my own and just get the updated software info, but there is an incompatible GPS hardware with the 2008 to my old 2006 program. I contacted the MS Tech and also had the Tech from India control my laptop to update the patch, but to no avail. Had to contact MS program refund dept. to return program to them (as open software cannot be return to retail)for credit. No problem for refund + shipping cost tho. Greatly surprised that MS software is not compatible backwards. I will probably wait another year and buy the whole program with GPS again. Otherwise, we are quite happy with it.

Thanks once again. The price through Amazon is certainly reasonable and well worth it to not lose signals in critical areas. I think I will go with the whole package.
Once again, thank you.

Just did a run with it. Loved it! Missed a hwy turn in the middle of nowhere at night. Expanded the map. Paralled the wanted hwy untill we could jump back on. We took side roads thru towns of 150 people that you would almost never find on a paper map and knew how far to the next turn. won't travel without again. The lap top is a pain, but the supersize screen is worth it.

I have found S&T 2008 to be really good and much better than 2007. I just did the upgrade as I already had the antenna. As far as the laptop, it is no problem at all. We have a Quad Cab Dodge and I built a tray to set the laptop on that goes in the middle in front of the front seats. Really nice having a 15" screen to follow rather than a 3-4" one. A small inverter also lets us run on 110 and save the battery. At this time the new version with GPS locater was on sale at Best Buy for around $66 either at the store or on the web. good Luck
