We were figuring our camping trips for the season and figured it would cost us fifty cents a mile to move our coach. Adding food, beer, site rent, and the $ 3.85/gal for the generator gas on the dry camping it's hitting the wallet hard. I told the wife if we don't use it we will sell it but not likey there are lots of people that want to take on that kind of expence. Guess its time to find a lake and use it as a weekend fishing cabin. Darn they are adding a fuel surcharge for the shipping on the fishing worms.

Instead of figuring costs per mile, why not figure out smiles per mile. Might change your decision.

Yes I know it is getting pretty expensive to move these rigs and we will be doing more local camping, but we are coming up to IN for the Open Road Rally in July and we are looking forward to it. Saving our "Pennies" till then to fill her up with diesel :-)

I know we should all be cheery and optimistic, but while we look at what it cost to fuel our rigs, don't forget what it costs to fuel the Big rigs that bring us food and other services too. Least of all don't forget that this fuel cost even filters down to the growers of our foodstuffs in much higher prices for fertilizer and other inputs. Yeah our fuel prices has doubled, but the fertilizer prices over the last 4 years or so has gone up almost 4 times. Eventually this will even affect the health care system too as it cost more to heat and cool hospitals and run ambulances and yes the help will want raises to offset their lost buying power. Taxes will also need to go up to keep teachers and other government employees at their current standard of living.
So while some look at just the price of fuel that is pumped into their RV, others have to look at their overall family budget.
Will RVing be cut back, no. Just the length of the journey and longer stays will occur for many.
Build more refinery's, and drill for oil in Alaska.

If those wall street tycoons would quit buying up commodities like there is no tomorrow we would have reasonable prices, they are ruining the value of the dollar. I have parked my truck for over a month and have just been driving the car and the DW will use the truck if she has to go somewhere which isn't very often. It has only had 1 tank of gas in the last month instead of 4. We are trying to stay within a 5 to 6 hour radius this summer for the high cost of fuel.

I didn't get into RVing because it was cheap.
If diesel fuel goes to $8.00/gallon I might slow down a little. Just a little.

There's -PLENTY- of oil RIGHT NOW !!
You may see existing refineries being shut down!
~
The sinking economy (and declining value of the US dollar) is causing bankers & investors to put their money in commodities.
This is what's driving the price of oil up and up and . . .UP !!

Doesn't matter where it comes from - or how much is available.
"We" are still going to pay!!

You think it's bad now, just wait. I remember thinking $2 a gallon was outrageous. What I wouldnt give to have those days back. I hear they are starting to add the "fuel surcharge" on pretty much everything ordered on the net. Funny how all the politicians are still refusing to use the "R" word. I think it's safe to say we're already there.....
