I have the Onan 4000 and appx. 150-hrs on it. After running around 10-hrs oil will be dripping out of filter case. I ran it with oil level right on full and then tried it running oil at half way between full and add oil mark. No change. Would appreciate thoughts on problem . I haven't hooked up a Manometer to the crankcase yet but plan to unless you'll have a quicker solution.(change oil every 50-hrs.)

Is the filter just defective or just loose assuming it is the typical spin on type? I would try to tighten it tigher and if that did not fix it I would just spin it off and spin on a new one.

What filter case? As far as I know 4k microquiets and microlites do not have a filter....

I didn't think your generator had a filter. Regardless, I found something the other day that may be relevant.

I checked my oil level and it was down a little. I put the "dipstick" back in, remeasured, and the oil was where it should be. The next time I checked, I noticed the oil level slowly rise back up after I took the dipstick out and was holding it in my hand.

Apparently the unit builds up pressure in the crankcase that needs to be vented for the oil to be at the correct level. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I was sure I saw it rising back up in the oil filler hole.

Another item to check is the low-oil-pressure switch. Mine was leaking from this, replaced the switch and everything is ok.

By the filter case do you mean the air filter housing?

The 4.0KY has no oil filter as it has no oil pump and as such there is no oil pressure switch or sending unit some units has a low oil level float switch in the back of the pan.

If the oil is leaking out the air filter or the hose from the top of the valve cover that runs to the air cleaner housing then you are running to thin weighted oil or the oil breather valve under the valve cover is sticking.
There was a problem with the valves setting to deep in the slot

I apoligize for the mistake which I typed. I am referring to the Air Filter Housing which is dripping the oil and also I use the Onan Oil which is sold for these engines. Again thanks for the replies.
