If you're still planning on towing the TT you mentioned in previous posts, the 6.0 will tow it nicely.

It won't tow as well as a big block or diesel, but it'll get the job done.

Sometimes you need to take advice with a grain of salt. Alot of guys think their truck is struggling if it drops out of O/D on a 9% grade towing 10,000lbs. Small block gas engines need rpms to make power.

On steeper grades you'll be up at 4000+ rpms to maintain speed. The 6.0 makes its power there and is designed to run those rpms.

At those rpms, you won't be getting good mileage, but the big blocks and diesels will lose some mpg as well.

My 6.0 really towed well 4 me. You just cant be afraid of rpm's with those things...mine towed pretty strong ~11k 5'er over several passes here in WA. but 4500-5k were common. held up well, didnt buy it 4 mileage though so just tried to keep up some speed

I know itll cost me to tow my trialer, and be happy with aroun 9mpg, just dont really want 5.5mpg like the guy i quoted at the begining. I ask him more ?'s and this is what he said about his setup.

"My Fiver is 27 feet with one superslide, it weighs 5900 lbs dry, toss in the water, the standard gear we pack around, supplies like food, water jugs, propane its still under 7000 lbs loaded. Truck was a 1500 HD crew cab short box 4x4, automatic, 373 gears, and I ran high octane when I was towing the trailer...

We have friends who have an F350 with a V10 Triton, she hasn't calculated her mileage ever, but went to Vancouver on $300.00 towing a 30 footer, 8500 lbs loaded... "

I'm sorry Trekker but these numbers do not add up unless he is dragging that puppy down the road at 85mph. I just trader my 04' 2500HD with the 6.0 and 4:10 gears in and it did much better than that. I took my 8400lb TT to Florida from Ohio and I averaged about 10 including going through WV etc....

I will look u p my old post and see what the mileage was, but I know it wasn't that bad. I towed in cruise with tow haul set and the speed set at 60mph. Pulled every hill and only downshifted going down steep grades.

You can manage 9 - 10 if you keep your speed appropriate

I also think the high test would not pay for itself unless you had it re-tuned to run on high test. Otherwise it wouldn't make much difference...

My kids have a 2005 2500HD with the 6.0 gas and 4 speed automatic transmission. They tow a Cardinal 31BH without any problems. The mileage averages between 8.5 and 9.5 when towing depending on where they go. General around town driving is 15. Me, being a Ford guy at heart, would certainly consider the same engine when I do buy a new truck.

My 06 GMC 6.0 with 4:10 gears tows my 8500 lb TT just fine. And looking at the thread my mileage is pretty closr to everyone else's. Last Friday however, I took the truck to the local Ramco Undercar Shop and had dual exhausts put on. The 6.0 has duals coming off the exhaust into the Cat Converter and out the back of the converter. It then goes to a single into and out of the muffler. Changing it over to duals was no big deal, expensive-yes but no big deal. The owner of the shop said I would not notice much difference around town, but when I pull the TT I would really be amazed. Haven't towed yet but will in April. Let you know if he was right.

Roster2,

I would really like to know the outcome in April. I might consider the same thing. Most of my trips are local but I do make 1 or 2 a year that are more significant (I see your from Enid ... I'll be in the NE corner of Ok on Labor Day).

Keep us posted will ya?
