I've stayed at Pirateland, hated it...no open fires , no motorscooters or cycles allowed , sites rediculously small , pool only 4' deep , no refunds. Ocean Lakes not much better. Check out the State park...sites twice as big at half the price , huge beach and fishing pier , fires OK. Pirateland is like living in the crowded city ,so go out to the country in the State Park.

I agree with dyb. Huntington Beach State Park is by far and away my favorite for the Myrtle Beach Area. Myrtle Beach State park is nice too but is near the airport. HB has limited sites with sewer hook-ups but as long as that's not a big deal it has some nicely spaced campsites, especially in loop #4. There is also almost a mile of undeveloped beachfront. SC state parks use Reserve America which is a great service and reservations can be made either 11 or 12 months in advance(I forget which). The best part is sites with E/W are $24/night.

If you are into the ocean, forest, and camping, try Myrtle Beach State Park, or Huntington Beach State Park. The fees are comparable, and the hustle and bustle are much less.

Just my 2 cents worth.

We've visited every campground in the Myrtle Beach area with the exception of Willow Tree. While it looks like a very nice campground, we would never stay there because it isn't on the beach.

IMHO Ocean Lakes is by far the best campground in the area. Great security, lots of activities, pull-through sites, ability to reserve a specific site.

Lakewood would be my second choice, although we've stayed there once and will never again. The problems there are that you can't reserve a specific site, no pull-throughs, and half the sites are backwards (curb side away from the ocean). The only time we stayed there we were assigned a site that had a low-hanging tree right in the middle, and it was nearly impossible to get into. Activities are comparable to Ocean Lakes, but at that time they didn't allow private carts on the transient sites (don't know about now).

If you're a golfer, the owner of Ocean Lakes also owns Prestwick Country Club across 17. Great course, very long and challenging, and they give visitors at OLFC a good discount to play there.

Hi

We have been going down to MB for nearly ten years now, we have stayed only a Lakewood because of friends and our kids. We have visited all og the CG's in the greater MB area and most of the water front CG's have their sites close in proximity, but you really can't go wrong with any of them, only if you don't like crowds.

I would say my only concern with your plans is going in March, the weather is a krap shoot at best during the early spring, you may have temps 50-70's and strong ocean winds, I'd recommend if you can go late in April, after the school vacations, you'll have much better chance of enjoying that great South Carolina sunshine!

I stayed at Lakewood 2 years ago. I'll never go back. I'm not saying it was a horrible experience but the sites were so close after parking my old Jayco 19H (yes 19H) I almost didn't have room to park my truck. Good thing we didn't have a slide or we would have hit our neighbor.

The only problem we have is that is when the kids spring break is and the other is that we will be going down to FL during the summer. May take a look at Gulf Shores?
thanks

thanks
