Just got home from 1500+ trip, thought I would see what a difference speed would make. Running at 60 MPH Ford V10 24 foot with slide and 3500# toad over Arkansas and Southwestern Missouri raised our MPG from 8.5 average to 10.9. Lots of hills.

Dave,
That's very encouraging! With no slides or toad and traveling at about 55 mph I just may be able to average 11 mpg or better in our 2005 V10 24 foot Class C.

Same for my '93 Winne 460, got 7MPG at 65-70 and almost 10 at 55-60
Still I'll drive at 65, 55 seems like you're crawling on a long trip.
Going on a 4000mi RT this summer, last time I burned 500 gallons.
I think I'll get a gas card that has frequent flyer miles or something.
There's got to be someone that has a 1 month deal for new card holders.

Am I incorrect in this? Please advise. Mine was removed by a shop outside of the Environmental Testing jusrisdiction. Not at my request, I will note, I was informed after the fact.

Gary, sorry I didn't get back. Yes my Cat is off and I have the Banks headers with the Powerflow muffler. Removing a Cat is a violation of Federal law and the fine is huge. Mine was already off also. It would be interesting to compare the weight of our two rigs. Mine has every option but I need to weigh it cause it's been a long time and Ive forgotten the weight. Right now I cant top 11.4 mpg. I just switched to real synthetic oil(Amsoil) so Im curious if I see any difference.

T18skyguy...got your note, thank you. I don't have the headers, just the Banks Air Ram. A K&N air filer. Just to confirm...you are running a 3" exhaust on a free flow muffler? And no Cat...saw that...what's your operating temp.? If you are running hot...get that down. I don't have a genny, run with full water/food/wine cabinet. I am betting your tire pressure is right on the money. The only other thing is the areo-dynamics. Mine is nicely rolled front to sides, not boxy. You know...the more I think on this...the more I think it's a factor. My glide ratio has got to be considered. Further to this..went looking at Jayco's on E Bay, seeking a similar year/style. Didn't get exact year...but...is yours boxy? Behind the drivers/passenger doors...is it a flat box? that the oncoming air just runs right into?...mine is rolled, no corner per se. This might have a significant impact.

Gary, I think your right on. Mine is boxy. Behind the doors is plain 90 degree flat not rolled. On top I have air conditioner, Max air fan and several vents and on the side there is an awning. I have the Banks headers that run to a 3 inch section(where cat used to be) then into the powerflow exhaust and then it goes to 4 inch the rest of the way. I have a genny, 2 coach batteries(some only have one), and carry a spare tire. Ive been toying with the idea of doing a fiberglass aerodynamic mod on the flat area's behind the door but for it to be effective I need to overlap the door handles, plus if I do it it has to look factory not hacked. If it gave me 2 extra mpg it would be well worth the trouble. Plus I have those big old flat mirrors sticking out in the wind with the 3 struts holding them. Doesn't anyone make these mods already? I think it would be a good market. My rig is a 96. I don't know my operating temp-I don't have a gauge-just idiot lights but it doesn't seem or indicate to me any heat issues.

T18skyguy....I have the two batts and spare off the rear too...and the awning, A/C, vents, Maxi Fan. So all in all, I think we are all pretty much same/same. The rolled cabin..that must have a huge impact. The overhead cab is rolled as well...no sharp edges. I don't know what that does to the wind flow down and over the sides, but it has to be significant. I go by Boeing often enough..if they'd let me use the wind tunnel, we'd be set.

Ok you airflow guys -once you compact air molicules against a surface doesn't the on coming air form a flow of least resistance? or do you want to create lift or suction as in a ground effect race car design-maybe just a big needle nose with neither lift or down force

Our last trip we got 7.424 mpg in a 20' Mini-Winnie with a Dodge 360, which included a high of 9.213 mpg of mostly two lane highway miles in the hilly desert outside of Reno, and a low of 6.191 mpg climbing several very steep mountain passes on hwy. 395 between Carson City and Bishop sometimes using 2nd gear and some city miles in Mammoth. In the past we have gotten up to almost 12 mpg in the past on relatively flat trips to the beach or river.
