Along with the flexible line addition to help with the noise transmitted through harder Pex tubing, a lot of the sound is transmitted through the mounting screws.
If you take a piece of 3/8" plywood about the size of the pump, screw the pump down to this board. Then, cut a piece of thick, high density foam or rubber, about 1/2" thick and glue this to the bottom of the board you mounted the pump to.
Then, use a good construction adhesive and glue the other side of the foam to the floor. This way there is no screws or any other solid mounts for sound to transmit through.
BTW, this procedure was mentioned in the current issue of Trailer Life.

Thanks everyone for the "sound" advice. I was just bragging to my wife at how awesome this forum is! Now I have a fun project for the weekend and an excuse to play in the trailer!

My dad goes to bed early and kept getting awakened by the pump when I did dishes or showered. There was only about 4 inches of hose on each side of the pump attached to the trailer piping. After my fourth trip, I bought the pump silencing hoses and installed one in a loop on the pump outlet and saved the other in my spare parts box for use on another project. I put clear vinyl tubing in a loop on the pump inlet between the pump and tank fitting. The hoses quieted the pump considerably. I had to make sure the outlet hose did not touch the rest of the piping which decreased the noise even more. The pump noise has been reduced about 60 to 70%. I plan to build a foam pad similar to the one described above.

I had already added a 2 gallon captive air tank I added after my secound trip which keeps the pump from pulsating and I can use some water without the pump kicking in. The tank was preset at the factory to 40 PSI and I had to reduce the air pressure to 20 PSI to get the tank to fill with water properly. My pump shuts off around 42 PSI.

My pump is a few years old and is very noisy too, but it works fine, otherwise I would look at upgrading to one like the Shurflo smartsensor or variable speed pumps.

Sooo, in the meantime, I am in the process of building an enclosure box out of 3/8 pressed board and 2x2's. I am going to use foam insulation beween the particle boards and special sound absorbing material on the inside box. The bottom will have some type of 1/2 or 3/4 rubber matting to mount the pump too. Total ouside diameter is 18x16x12. Big enough to have room to upgrade pumps down the road and/or store extra materials/tools inside and be very quiet.

While I was in the process of building the enclosure, I believe to found one of my hoses that is adding to the rattling noise. It was on the line after my water filter to the main flow line. I have used some of the pipe insulation (from Walmart) on most all of my accessable lines (at least I thought I did). Now that I removed my pump, I have found this stiff hose which is probably (the main reason for our noise) causing this additional noise and i will insulate it soon too.

Just tinker around with your RV. Each year think about some type of project to work on in the winter. Then every Spring your RV will be that much more enjoyable... Good Luck

My pump was very noisy too. I isolated it from its mounting and added a small tank to lessen the pump cycling on/off and smooth the water flow. It is much better now, but still makes enough noise to occasionally awaken one of the grandkids sleeping near it.

I would like to see pictures and see what you did. I am more interested in smoothing out the water than the noise.

Easy fix. And cheap. Pick up some insulating pipe foam from your local hardware store. It is slit down the middle. Cut to length. Spread the slit and slip onto the offending pipes. Problem solved. Instantly and cheaply.

Also, to quiet the pump simply wrap a piece of 1" foam around it.

Just don't wrap it around the pump motor. Some pump motors have internal thermal protection and insulating the motor may cause it to overheat.

Also, if you remove the head off of a pump and just run the motor, they are very quiet. It's the pump chamber that makes the noise.

My JayFlight G2 2008 had the same problem, read the "manual" for the pump that came in the big bag-o-stuff. You will notice that the pump wasn't installed per manufacturer's recommendations. I tried foam installation, damping pieces of dense foam under the pump and they didn't help much. The only thing that worked is installing the loop of flexible hose to isolate the pump's vibration from the pex tubing. If you feel around you will notice that the pump's vibration is being conducted into the sink which is vibrating like a woofer. Put some water in the sink and you can see it dance around. The pump itself is mounted properly on the rubber feet, it isn't the problem and no amount of insulation around it will cause it to stop vibrating the sink (of course until it overheats and dies!). Using a tank will minimize the time between pump cycles but won't do much to reduce noise when it is on. Once I figured out what to do, it took about ten minutes to accomplish using around $15 of parts from LOWE'S.

Good luck, it is a great trailer!
