while I recognize that this subject has likley been beaten to death year after year, there are also new members year on year who would like to beat it to death one more time...and its a good way to get everyone excited about the coming season...

So I see it mentioned in a few other threads when you all mention getting ready for a new season... "restocking"... as Im new to this sort of camping, I have a vision of having "camper clothes", toiletries, dishes etc... but what else should be considered as staple items we should be stocking ?

Once the temps stop dropping below freezing at night im going to go to a local camp ground for a few nights and keep track of what im missing... (and drink a fair bit of beer and have a good time in the toy) but it would be nice to have a good starting point...

Mac and cheese
cans of diced potatos
cans of baked beans
assorted small boxes of cereal
snacks
poptarts
cans of soup
allergy meds
pain meds

I do shop for food for each trip. But these are things I always like to have in the camper.

I usually check expiration dates on medications, sunscreens, etc. Stock up on meds, sunscreens, bug spray, shampoo, conditioner...

Most other items I just check before each trip rather than seasonally. If I know I'll be close to stores I am not as diligent

I'd have to ask the DW - she's in charge of that.

However, I make sure that the beer is fully stocked!

Every October, when I empty out the 5er, I make a list of what I remove. That way I know what to re-stock in the spring. As our 5er is parked next to the house, I also tend to use it as a personal "convenience store" and take things from it when I run out in the house. I add those items to my "restock" list.

I have found that some things that most folks would remove actually freeze quite well. Things such as toothpaste. I've NEVER had a problem leaving toothpaste in the 5er over the winter. I've even left shampoo and conditioner in there. The conditioner does tend to separate, but it just needs a really good shaking to get it all mixed up and useful again!

I usually leave my spices in there, as freezing won't hurt them, and will actually help to preserve them.

All bedding is stripped in the fall, washed and put away in the house. In the spring, one of the first things I do is make the beds. Then I start with vacuuming up all the dead (or dormant?) bugs. I'll wipe everything down and vacuum everything, together with washing the floor.

If you have that list from the fall, it will be very easy to restock come spring!

Have fun, and happy spring!

Julie

Canned foods, non perishibles, etc. Once you have done it for a few years, it'll be second nature.

Restock all consumables.

As previously mentioned, we remove all that stuff in the fall, use it at home during the winter, and re-stock fresh in the spring. This includes batteries for TV remotes, smoke detectors, etc.

Thanks, Larry
