Well this post answered one of my questions. Will somebody tell me this? My trailer ship weight is 8380, GVWR is 11160, the axle weight is 7220, and the tongue weight is 1000. I am definitely going to buy the Equalizer but which weight rating should I buy. Is it better to buy one that is rated for a litlle more or one that closest fits mt trailer weight?

Go for one rated a little more, which, in this case, will be the 12,000 lb unit.

Does it list the dry hitch wt.? If the ship weight is 8380 and axle wt. of 7220 you could already have 1100 lbs on the tongue and for a 11160 GVWR when loaded and read to go you might be close if not slightly over 1200 on the tongue. I would look hard at the 1400/14K system since IIRC the bars an not different, but the hitch head is bigger/stronger. I have the Equal-i-zer 1200/12K and have been running around 7K axle wt. and around 850-950 tongue and things are just fine and I have some slop to go higher on the tongue wt.

I would go with around 12% to 13% axle wt. (probably 5K axles) for tongue wt. and that will put you over 1200 on the tongue. The GVWR of you trailer is 11160 which should include tongue wt. and for dual 5K axles the tongue is at 1160 and depending on how you load it could put you over 1200 tongue wt.

I'd go with the 1400/14k version. That's what I have and my trailer is about the same weight (11700 GVW).

I would go with the "Eq" for simplicity of use as much as anything else...Rvwholesalers has them for $399,I think and free shipping and that is about 4100-200 less than anyone else. With your tt weights,I would also go with the 1400# as that will give you more weight to play with...I thought that I was doing ok with 1200# on the "EQ" till I weighed the trailer a week into a three week trip and discovered that the tongue weight was 1175#.. OOppss...moved a bunch of stuff out of the front storage area and some of the DW's clothes out of the closet and overhead and into the rear bunkroom which dropped the tongue to a bit over 1000# and that also made the trailer ride easier...
Don't forget that the dry tongue weight doesn't include the weight of FULL propane tanks and the two batteries that most of us have...
