Our son was camping at about a month old. He's 2 1/2 now and we camped about 40 nights last year. We used a pack and play the whole time. Now that we have our new TT, he's going to use the lower bunk.
We learned that you don't need to have the room so quiet that you can hear a pin drop. He slept through pretty much everything from people talking outside the pop up to us getting ready for bed, etc. We got a cheap baby monitor, put it in the camper and then we sat by the campfire. No problems whatsoever.
Camping with a baby is really easy, its just a lot more stuff to bring. The good news is once they get a little older and into camping, they can help you load up and they can make decisions on what they want to bring. My 2 1/2 year old even tries to help with the stabilizer jacks now!

Awesome information as we are planning our first camping trip with our twin boys this coming June. They will be about six month's old come that time so I am hoping that they will do fine. I am just wondering what we are really going to be able to do with them once we get there since they can't walk around or ride a bike. The only thing so far that I know of is getting one of those backpack things and take them hiking.

I was the baby, born the end of March, camping Memorial weekend - 49 years later (yes, I admit it), I am still camping and still loving it.
First camping trip was in a tent, now in a trailer.

Myself I was tent camping on a frosty night before I was three months old. Now I don't recommend doing that but point is even that is doable.
We took both our kids out as very young 3 mos range. If mamma is up to doing it the kid will be ok. Usually we have used a bunk with a bed rail to keep em from rolling out.
When the kid got older to where they were apt to try and climb over the bed rail in the night we put a mess of pillows on the floor so they'd land softly when they fell. Never needed to use the pillows but let us sleep better.
If you can keep the baby warm and dry fed and changed then it doesn't matter where you take them. But do watch out for skeeters and sun and such.

Took my daughter for her first camping trip when she was 2 months old. She and mom slept in the master bed, 10 year old son and I took the bunks in the back. Just remember to bring enought diapers and wipes. When you think you have enough, grab more.

Camping with young ones is great!
Please just don't do what we came upon once where a previous camper had dumped several disposable dipers in the fire ring.
Or just throw them out on the ground as some others do in parking lots.
Be curtious and have fun camping and when they are older they will always remember.

To keep baby's outside without them being able to walk away or get into trouble while they are just in the crawling age, or just toddler stage, we had one of those fence enclosures that you can buy from Toy's R us. The initial enclosure in a nice size, and you can buy more panels to make it larger as the kids get bigger. We put a tarp down then put the fenced enclosure on top of the tarp and then put old blankets down. Kids were enclosed could crawl around have their toys in it, etc. PERFECT.

When my kids were infants and we traveled, i'd open a drawer and place that on the floor, and that's where they slept until they could roll over. Then it was the pack and play. Outside i'd use a playpen (40X40) with a net over the top if there were bugs and in the shade.
it's definitely easier to leave the things you need in the trailer, i.e., pack and play, monitor, playpen, and even an extra stroller if you've got one, than packing everything in and out for every trip.
Relax and have fun!!!

Thanks for all the great information.
Where can I get one of these bug nets for on top of the play yard/play pen?
Thanks.

My daughter started camping at 2 mos. Last season she went 12 times and I only got to go 11.
We just take the dinette down and her pack and play fits right in there. She sleeps better in the camper than at home. For outside we just use several of the plastic kennel type fences and form a big playpen for her.
I also take along my EZ up with the screened sides to keep her out of the sun and it also keeps the bugs away from her.
Like someone said before. It is much easier than it seems. Don't spend too much time over thinking everything.
Just don't forget diapers!!!
