If you are an AK resident and almost always do your camping in our great state, lets hear from you. I have the urge to camp in a big way with our (false?, temporary) spring-like weather. Since it isn't good enough for that, how about an intro.
Also, tell about some of your favorite camping places.

Hi
Your right about the false spring weather. We just got the cover off our TC and are making plans for the spring. Need to do some mods on the TC and get everything ready. In the early spring we head down to the Kenai and do some camping on the beaches. Later in the summer we normally head up to the Denali Hwy. Good sites and decent Grayling fishing.

We are soooooo ready for camping. We are actually waiting for our new 5th wheel to be delivered within the next 2 weeks. We are planning to take it out the first time the weekend on April 19th.
We also have our 2007 toy hauler for sale and hope it finds a new home before too much longer.
We are going to spend time in Seward, Homer, Denali and Cooper Landing this summer.

We have a class A and DH wants to bring it home this Thursday so we can start our "Spring Cleaning" of it. We need to wash all the linens and air it out. I really want to shampoo the carpet before starting the season. We have already started buying to stock it for the summer. Our first trip will be around the same time as JCGibson's. We start off the season in Seward since no other places are really open until Memorial Day...little chilly there, but all the more reason to enjoy the campfire. Our times are spent mostly chasing the fish around on the Kenai and weekends where the fishing is slow we love to relax at Quartz Creek or Willow...Have never been to Eklutna Lake but would love to go, as well as Hidden Lake. I hear though that if you want to get a spot, you need to head out on a Thursday. That's tough to do since we are working. I really wish that Girdwood had an RV park.

Hey JC - how long have you had your toy hauler up for sale? We had a hard time selling our Class C last year so put it up at RV Exchange and it sold within a couple weeks. Just a thought for you.

Moose Nugget, did you drive your camper down to the lower 48, or did you ferry it? You have been to a lot of states, just curious.

Hi Welsteach
We have driven down each time. Last year went to Baja for 10 weeks then on up to New Mexico. From there just took our time visiting friends along the way with a stop in Seattle.

It took about 6 days to get through Canada and a stop over (3 days) in Seattle for tires etc. Then another 5 days to drive down the Interstate to Baja. The drive across Canada was the only bad part of the trip due to the number of animals on the highway and the darkness for that time of year (Feb). Temps were down in the -40's F , we just took our time.
Needless to say on the way down we stayed in Motels and camped out on the way home. Baja was a lot of fun and we really had a great time visiting the missions and meeting the people. And the price of diesel at that time was $1.95 in Baja. We camped out primarily on the beaches : .

Off topic! Heads up for those of you considering Baja as a camping destination this year. There has been a hugh increase of crimes against americans traveling and living in baja due to the drug cartels being so unstable. Americans are being robbed by gunpoint constantly down there lately. They take all your stuff and they are really targeting rvers and campers. They are also kidnapping americans for very little money. I live in San Diego and these storys are being told with frequency on our local news and in the papers. Many die hard baja fans are just staying away. some stories include the women being attacked after they subdue the men in the group. This is not new but the frequency has really increased. I used to go there with my kids all the time for dental work but not anymore just too risky.
