IMO if you do up the Load Range, please please check the rating on your WHEELS. Most wheels I've seen are rated for the load range of the original tires. After all, why wouod manufacturer put on wheels heavier than required, and spend the extra money? No sense uping tires and then overloading wheels!

My 5 x 8 utility trailer with 3500 lb axle came with Tow Masters. I bought it new in 2001. The tires still look good.

My 18 foot TT has 4 Carlisle's. They are 9 years old and I put them on new after I bought it used in Dec 1998. they are beginning to dryrot but I will not be replacing them since the trailer is retired and will be scrapped. It is my spare gear storage shed right now.

My 2000 Coleman/Fleet wood popup has the original Duro's that came with the trailer when I bought it new in 2000.

I have had no problems with any of them yet. Maybe just lucky. I may replace the popup tires before my next trip the first weekend in May since the side walls are starting to crack. They are 8 years old anyway. Possibly with another set of Duro's.

My 28-1/2 ft 2007 Northwood TT has Trail America and I replaced one with my spare Carlisle after getting a nail in it. I had the tire repaired and it is now my spare and I bought another Carlisle for that trailer as a second spare.

I ordered an ST tire for my Scamp 13' from a Cooper dealer in Colorado, through the Cooper system and he made a big deal about US tires. When the tire arrived, after four days, it was not a Cooper and said Made in India on the side...

We had a blowout on 3 year old Generals (ST225/75R15 LR D) that were made in Mexico. They were checked for proper inflation every time. They were always warm or hot (summer) to the touch. Could have been road debris as the tire dealer claimed but I had not hit anything on the highway with the tow vehicle. In the three years we had averaged around 12000 miles per year so 36000 miles before they failed I really can't complain too much. The treads still looked good on the others but I didn't trust them after that. The camper actual weight ready to camp is 9520# or 2380# per tire under what I was told was the max for these D range tires of 2480#.

I recently changed them to Titan Radial ST-II LR-E and metal valve stems. They appear to run cooler so far with better tracking stability and a max load of 2830# per tire. As far as I know they are manufactured in the USA.

I keep the speed around 60-65 mph when towing unless I have to pass some idiot on the road. My two cents but I think any tire can fail if not properly maintained. I see a lot of vehicles running on what look like a almost flat tire on at least one wheel and just asking for a side wall failure. Try to avoid being around them on the highway.

Safe towing!

My original Goodyear Marathons were Made in Canada. My current Maxxis are Made in Thailand. An era has passed and few of us will ever be able to use tires Made in USA again. I vividly remember, in 1985, teaching my young daughter to avoid items in Wal-Mart that were Made in China. Well, 23 years later, the joke is on me. I am hard-pressed to find anything, anywhere, at any cost that is NOT made in China! Sorry, I just had to vent.

Ok. after reading through a lot of posts about tirs, here is what I have come up with. I have a new TT that came with Duro tires. The size I need is 205 75 14 with a minimum load rating of c. I wouldn't mind upping the load rating to d. Theoretically to me, it should be a stronger tire with less chance of problems.

1-radial, not bias
2-stay away from chinese tires
3-Stay away from Carlisle, Greenball, Duro, Goodyear, and ? else.
4-everyone seems to like Maxxis and Michelin

What other tires do you like and dislike? I am trying to make a list. It stinks that I just spent a lot of money on a new trailer and now I have to go get new tires to protect my investment.

How about tire pressure monitors? I know there are some different brands out there. Some have bad reps and some are great. Please tell me your opinion. Again, this is another expensive investment to protect my trailer.
Thanks

If its a new trailer aren't the tire under warrenty?

I have read just about every thread on TT tires here for that past couple of years. I have come to a couple of conclusions;

1. every brand has had some documented problems, no matter where they were made.

2. every brand has some great success stories, no matter where they were made.

3 My TT came with the dreaded "Mission" tires which have served me perfectly so far. (3 seasons and about 20,000 miles of every type of road and weather conditions)

4. I believe that it is time to replace them before they become a problem.

5. I am putting on a set of "Towmasters" as they seem to have as good a record as any and my local dealer which is providing them (and is a place I have known for many, many years and that I trust) also has a very good history with them.

I hope they serve me as well as the Missions did.
