hi again,
so after you went to sam's and bought the equipment (receivers, tripod, dish antenna and cable) you subscribed to the service of the satellite company, is that correct?
if you have problems with the hardware do you have to solve those problems yourself?
sorry to be so dense about this. i just have not found the companies to be very helpful.
thanks for your suggestions.

hello all,
i am new to the satellite tv world. we use cable at home but would like satellite in our fifth wheel. can someone tell me how to start? must i have a satellite in my home? or can i subscribe just for my rv?
what do i need for a connection? dish, tripod, cable and receiver? plus the monthly subscription.

any suggestions / information is much appreciated.

do a search. just give dish/direct a call and tell them you want service. I would buy a receiver/dish myself, not rent one of theirs.

Direct was mentioned.

I have owned the equipment in the past when they didn't offer the lease option and if anything went wrong it was my baby so to speak. I lease the equipment from Directv now and pay the $5 per month for the insurance so that if anything goes wrong they will send me another receiver/remote..etc. As others have said before...keep calling until you get someone on the line that can answer your questions.

I'm in that same situation (cable at home; want sat for RV). I spent over an hour on the phone with Direct the other day, and called them back 3 times. Each time I got someone different; I even asked for a supervisor or "resolution specialist"; each time I was told they will not offer service to an RV only. They said it had to be in a house with a fixed address.

Just for the heck of it, I told them that I will be living full time in the RV and have no house. I was then asked: "OK What is the address of the RV?". I said it's wherever I park it as I travel around the country!

Supervisor told me that they could not help me, even after I said that I would be calling Dish Network. Supervisor agreed that Dish might offer such service, but they don't. I haven't called them yet, but I will.

so you are in a home now? get the service, either dish or direct and one or two receivers for the home. then when you go full time, just do a change of billing address to your new one.

ok, glad to know it is not just me who is having these issues with the satellite companies. i wonder if i give them my "home" address will they come and set-up the equipment? if so - can i just transfer it to my 5th wheel? what is involved in getting the signal - do i just "push a button" on the receiver? i told you all that i was a novice at this...

thanks again

Yes, I am in a house, and I'm not going full-time in the MH, just an extended trip for some months. But I didn't want the satellite company to install anything here. My home entertainment systems are set up the way I want them, and I don't want to 'un do' any of it to fool the satellite company into thinking I am using it at home, or getting a 2nd receiver.

I only want 1 receiver and it is exclusively for the motorhome. I planned to buy it, and then just pay for service. I don't know why that has to be so complicated.

I got my extra dish for Direct TV off a rental house. The owner required the renter to remove it. It was on the curb with the trash. Works like a charm.

If you are going to "buy" your receiver, I think you will have to go Dish, not direct. so buy one, put it in your bedroom, basement, coal bin or whereever and get Dish service. then when you want to take it with you just take it with you.
don't ask and don't tell. Oh wait, that is about another topic.
