The easy fix is as old guy said. I've used TurboTax for ten years on probably as many computers and I've never had an install problem so I suspect the problem is your PC. One easy check is to look at your drive to see if it has a DVD logo on it. I don't have my Turbo Tax disc but take a look at it also to see if it say DVD. The reason for the question is in recent years some SW publishers have switched from CDs to DVDs because of their higher storage capacity. DVDs are not readable in a CD only drive, but most newer PCs have drives that read DVDs. I have had DVD drives fail so that is also a probability, you can try reading other media to check the drive. A call to Dell may be worthwhile.

You probably would get better/more answers if this post was in the Technology forum.

Good luck

Just finished our taxes using the online version and it was flawless. You don't pay one dime until you are done, satisfied and ready to either print or E-file, then you pay. We use the Home/business model, as we have our business and the price is right.

Again, we like many have used Turbo Tax for probably at least 10 plus years and never had a problem. I'd suspect its your computer at fault. Perhaps you can use a friends computer to do your taxes? It even worked this year using my new Vista operating system. And there isn't a lot of things that work on Vista

I had the same problem installing turbo tax, I turned off the virus protection and the firewall, and then it install ok. During the install TurboTax accesses a server at TurboTax and the firewall/virus protection thinks it is try to do something bad. Hope this helps

There are also excellent FREE tax programs on the Internet. If you absolutely can't get your copy of TurboTax working, try this:TaxAct
I've been using TaxAct since it first started and have never had any problems with it.

I,m sure that there are good online tax programs, but being the paranoid that I am, I'm not inclined to have my tax information stored on a some server in some unknown location. With all of the electronic break-ins that were hear about in banks, national chain stores, mistakes made by IT wizards, etc. I don't trust them. I do min on my own computer, back it up to a CD, store it with the install disk in a file with the printed return, then delete it all from the computer. To each their own. IMHO

If you are not happy with the Turbo Tax program, try Tax Cut instead. I switched a few years ago because Turbo Tax was getting more expensive. Tax Cut is a H R Block product and has worked fine for me. The basic system which works for me and my self-employed situation was less than $15. As others have said, maybe your disc isn't being read by the computer properly, in which case no software can be loaded and the online option may be the only thing available.

We have used TurboTax since 1987 When we Mac folks had Macintax. Then it was sold to Chipsoft, and then to Intuit as TurboTax. I buy it every year, and will continue to do so. I have never had a problem installing the program, so I'd say like some others that you have a hardware problem.

See Ya,
John
