I am thinking of removing my existing hard wire power cord and installing a conversion kit sold at camping world.
Has anyone installed this type of unit and how did it go. I am also wondering what the electric box shown in the picture on line is for. Thanks for all the help....

I don't know what type of kit you are looking at. If you have a 50 amp power cord, and want to install a locking disconnectable cord, then that is not really difficult to do.
I guess that the electrical box is to make the wire connections and keep them in a safe place that is contained and accessable to tighten the connections from time to time.

Right now I don't really understand exactly what you want to do.
Do you have a 30 amp or 50 amp power supply?
If you have a 50 amp, you can install both 30 amp and 50 amp cords to a 50 amp connector that is a quick disconnect from the RV.

A detachable cord is not a bad thing . Some find it more convenient than pushing cord into trailer. If you camp in cold weather, cord can become stiff and hard to push into RV. A detachable cord can be removed and stored easier in some cases. Notice you guys in moderate climates can't imagine the need for a detachable cord.
I don't necessarily understand what advantage you gain. All I can see in the ability to unplug the rig end of the shore cord. If that is the advantage simply use and extension cord and unplug and store wherever you wish.

The metal box is to contain the wires on the inside of the RV, where the disconntable cord mounts to the outside wall of the RV.
It looks like a good kit, and at around $40 per hour to install it, $79 is about right. It would make connecting the cord a little easier or more difficult, depending on how your situation is now. In my case, it would be more work, Fleetwood leaves plenty of room for the RV cord.
In the case of my old class C, it might have been easier, because the cord had to be pushed back into a small box through a 4" hole in the sidewall, and a small door locked.
The part I really don't like is the cord extends out to the right a few inches, then has this 25 pound extension cord hanging off of it, so there is a lot of pressure attempting to tear the cord connector off the RV wall. If the cord connected at a 45 degree angle downward, then I would like the kit, but in some situations, it might make the RV wider, so that would not be good either.
I also don't like the detachable cord in a RV park where someone could go through and pick them up, so with the attachment outside in the rain, subject to theft, both two disadvantages.
