Need a little help here.

I used dialectric grease on my 7 pin connector and it crystalised around the charging wire pin.

Should I not be using it on this connector?

Is there a better corrosion inhibitor designed for this type of application?

Not sure because I have used it and never had a problem. I would be prone to trying it out and seeing if it works. I think it would work fine. Hope someone knows better than me.

I have never put anything on my plug for years and it works perfact all the time. I would clean it up with a dremal wire brush and leave it dry.
It works for me.

I don't use it on mine but I really can't think of any reason it would harm anything. Wonder if you might have had a loose connection that was arcing and causing the problem?

I use it regularily on two TT and have never had a problem. After winter I need to clean it and then re-apply but that is about it. It keeps my connector and plug clean and rust free even with all the salt here in the Southern Ontario winters.

Thanks, I wasnt sure if maybe there were current or heat limitations on dielectric grease.

I didnt see any signs of arcing in either plug or receptacle and it did seem like it was heat related. I recently replaced the truck receptacle a while ago because of corrosion, so I guess now its time to look at the trailer plug end... it probably has some hidden corrosion too somewhere.

I use it for all my electrical connections on my boat and it works great inhibiting corrosion.

I think dielectric grease is the correct stuff to use. You might have to get some electrical contact cleaner and wash the old hardened grease out. then just replace it with new grease and go about your happy way.

I use the spray cleaner that Radio Shack sells and have had no problem in three years.

The correct service for this connection system is WD40 and compressed air. Spray WD40 on both halves of the connection and blow off with compressed air. Do this several times a year. More if you are in the northern climates.
