Am looking for a new 12V deep cycle battery and there doesn't seem to be lots of choices if you stay away from the deepcycle/starting types.

The Group 27 at Wal-Mart seems to be the bargain at $55 or $60 and I believe has 115 Ah and 160 min RC.

Sears has a Group 29 that has 115 Ah and 200 min RC for $110. Is it worth the extra money? The Ah rating is the same but the RC rating is 40 minutes longer.

Batteries Plus has a Werker Group 31 that has 105 Ah and 185 min RC ratings for $95. I have no idea if it is a good brand or not.

Opinions?

You could use the search function on this forum or go to this clickable link -12 volt side of life

You may change your mind on the type of battery you should buy, after reading the link above

I have no trouble finding straight deep cycle ones, not combos.
I would either get one of the cheapest or a very expensive one, in the largest size you can find/use.

Go with a Trojan 6 or 12 volt for a true deep cycle.

Why not go with a pair of U-220's 220 is the reserve capacity 232 amp hours You do need two since they are six volts each but you can get the US-220, usually, at Costco for a reasonable price (Near as I can tell same battery)

Plus being as these are TRUE DEEP CYCLE batteries, they are a bit better for RV use, They have heavier plates, deeper sumps, and taller heads so they last longer and can go longer between watering. A very useful battery for RV use.

So $110/$120 at WM gets you 230 amp hrs and $110 at Sears gets you 115 amp hrs... buy at WM.
Good or bad needs to be relative to price for me.

Also with more capacity you will cycle them less and they will last longer. With proper care you should get 4 to 6+ years out of any of these.

Check your battery compartment before you buy. Get the measurements then go look at bigger batteries..

My answer would be that it depends. If you are looking for the cheapest solution, then go with the Wally World batts (SAMS has them also). If you are looking for a really good quality batt, then get some Lifeline Batteries. You can get them at Copperstate battery on Thomas Road here is Phx. That is where I went. Check out www.lifelinebatteries.com to see all the different types/sizes before you go to Copperstate so you know what you want. As bigfootford stated, make sure to measure your batt copartment to make sure they will fit.

I had two of the big yellow MAXX Wal-Mart batteries in the last two years. Both shorted the plates and made a stinky mess in the battery box. The interstate battery Group 24 that came with the camper is back in service and working fine. I'm in the process of upgrading to two Trojan T-105's before our summer trip to Yellowstone.
