We are headed down to Corpus and are going to leave at 4:30 p.m the night before so we are looking for a place to park and not hook up to spend the night. That is about two hours or so from Altus,OK. I found the following along hwy 283.
Albany Motor Inn & RV Campgound, Albany
Baird Motor Inn & Rv, Baird
Whites, Clyde, TX
Want to know if anyone has stayed at any of these and are they safe? Or does anyone have any other suggestions. Help is appreciated. Thanks Deb

Oh my gosh, you DID stir up some memories. Baird is the town where my father was born and I have some relatives still living there. I was there years ago and I think the RV Park is on the north side of the Interstate(20). It should be safe at the motel. Take a trip downtown, I understand that it is now quite a junk, oops, antique town with the old rail station, etc.
Just happened to think of another place. If you get to into Baird early enough you might consider Horde's Creek Lake down at Coleman. It is 6 miles east of town and it is a Corp of Engineers park. I remember it to be a really nice little lake. Coleman is about an hour south of Baird.

We feel safe in all of those towns. If you don't want to hook up why not find the friendly Walmart? There is a new one just north of the interstate east of downtown Abilene.
Why not try Ft.Griffin State Historical Site(was state park until the 1st of the year). It's about 15 miles north of Albany, nice campground that is very underused and part of the official Texas Longhorn herd is kept there.

We need electric for my husband's c-pat machine. Otherwise he won't get any sleep. And he's driving. But thanks for the suggestion.
I think we will check out either Ft. Griffin or Baird. Thanks again Deb.
Well as luck would have it we stopped in Clyde. Found 8.6 acres of heavily brushed and treed land for sell and bought it. I’m asking the city to rezone to allow RV Park. The next question will be if they approve do I divide it up into large lots and sell/lease them or make it into an over night stopping place along I-20? Life is great.
Here is an excellent little campground right in a city park in Rising Star, TX...pretty much on your way to Corpus. Cheap too at $10. Water and elec but I don't remember if they had sewer. Clean campground with a nice walking trail around the park, excellent veterans memorial and right in the middle of a residential area. Very safe.
The White's RV park is fairly descent with full hookups. It is on the access road to I-20, south side of the Interstate. Friends of ours stayed there once, and liked it for a short stay. Baird Motel and RV park looks OK from the Interstate. The park is behind the motel. It is on the north access road. Don't know of anyone that has stayed there. Don't know anything about the Albany place.
Happy RV'ing,

Thanks for all the feedback on the towns. We got lucky and got out of Altus 3 hours earlier then planned. So we drove all the way to Kerrville,TX., and met up with my sister and her husband. Stayed at a really nice campground called Buckhorn. It was beautiful and people were very friendly. Thanks again! Deb
