If you haven't had it very long, take it back to Home Depot and get your money back. Then put your hard earned money towards a Honda or a Yahama, and quite with the Coleman Powemate, as they are to darn noisey anyways. One thing that Home Depot hates to lose, is a Happy Customer. Try telling them, that if you don't get you money back, your going to take your business to Lowes, they hate that. Why do I know this, been there, done that on other items. Both Lowes and Home Depot hate each other, and will if they can, bend over backwards to keep a Happy Customer. Here is how Home Depot and Lowes looks at thier customers. They don't care about you today, but rather they look at your for the next 20 to 25 years, and they average approx that each Customer will spend at least $25,000 to over $50,000 in that amount of time. Its sure worth a try. Tell them, that you lost the recipt and you bought it for cash less than 30 days ago. If you do that, you will get your money back, or at least a store credit worth the purchase price. How do I know all of this, trust me, I do know. Both Lowes and Home Depot would rather keep a Happy Customer, as both Home Depot and Lowes already has it worked out with all of there supppliers, they give them full credit for any returns, working or not. Period. Good Luck. Happy Campiing, Dan & Jill
What and idea.
Increase prices for everybody else, tell a lie, no one needs or wants a customer like that.
A few years ago bought a paint sprayer. Took it home, noticed that the box had been opened and carefully resealed. Got the sprayer out and found a paint sprayer that someone had used and put back in the box without cleaning it up. It was ruined, useless. Irritated me because I was ready to paint and back to the store. Initially they implied that I was the one trying to pull a scam, that really got my blood pressure up. Had a very loud conversation with the manager right at the front of the store where everyone could hear. I got a new one in an unopened box.
Point is, some low life (no better term I can think of that I can use here) got over by using a paint sprayer for free, had a negative effect on a reputable store, stole a few hours of my time, caused a couple of folks to have bad day and in the end, caused the price of paint sprayer to go up.

This is a miserably unethical plan. If the product is in a "returnable state," (packaging available, not oiled and fueled up) and you don't think it will meet you needs, then return it. Parts? Who knows. I don't know who makes their engines, but I know it wasn't Coleman. What,(?) should they return their National RV's too? See how "that" works with the dealer. Now, you might go plead your case with the selling point, but it's their call at that point, you don't defraud them... Man... Must be rampant... Last week I bought some fairly expensive electrical parts from Lowes. 2 of them. They were stacked together and she (the cashier) only rang up one of them. I looked at the receipt when I got to the truck, and realized they only charged me for one. I went back and told her I bought two of "these," not one. She was stunned that I came back in. SHOULDN'T be this way. Vendors have to price everything based on "their total exposure" to all sorts of customers.
Personally I think if you only bought it a week ago, and probably have not used it it sounds like. Take it back and tell them since powermate is bankrupt you would like to return it as it no longer will have a warranty.
I do not see this in the same league of those that are lying or trying to cheat the store with returning used goods or made up stories.

He did use it. Maybe part of the research on any product should be be manufacturer's financial status? Often life isn't fair. If the product has a history of reliable service and the manufacturer goes under before the end of the warranty does not sound like an ethical basis for the return. You pays your money and you takes your chances. Contrary to what most attorneys try to sell you, the world is not a 100% safe place and products made by humans (that includes the machines made by humans to make stuff) are not perfect.

The web site is still up, but in 2 weeks, I was not able to get anyone to reply to e-mails to their customer service and tech depts. I even question that when I finally got the working phone number from HD. I think they should at least put something on the website about them filing for bankruptcy to let people know

Keep it, enjoy it and use it. If you need parts, PM me and if I have any left, I'll try to help you out.
Like I said in an earlier post, you got a good value for your dollar. Some last a very long time, sometimes you get one that doesn't do as well.
One thing about them, do not shut them down when powering a large load like an AC. SHut the load down first, let it run a couple of minutes without a load, then shut it down. Try to not let it run out of fuel and have it shut down with load either.

Websites are not a sign of a living, breathing company.
The Burro fiberglass trailer company in Calif has been gone for years, the phones are dead, the building is empty but the website is still up and people ask on the fiberglass RV groups why the company won't answer emails...
It would be unfortunate if that division of Coleman has gone belly up. I persanlly would return the genset back to home depot citing that there is no service or warrenty if the company has gone under. Costco are selling some great Champion brand gensets. Just wonder if they would include a set of ear protectors. Naaa... just kidding. I'd buy one for the ranch but we just purchased a 16Kw Generac from Norwall last fall. Runs anything and everything when the grid goes off but a bit too big to carry with you camping!!
