DH is looking at a possible job opportunity in Raleigh. Neither of us has been there, which we obviously would as something becomes more solid, however, we've never lived more than 50 miles from where we grew up. Any comments/concerns about Raleigh (we live in NW IN now, so weather I'm thinking would have to be better!)

Becky, sounds like any move for you all is going to be BIG. We moved here 20 years ago from FL. Grown a lot, very popular location. Job opportunities were first to bring nice mix of people here, now retirement is big too. Think weather would be a big plus for you Some adjacent communities are still rural, mostly suburbs and some city/town living. RE has not taken as much of a hit here as many regions but prices are higher than many expect for the "south". This area is called the Triangle. Raleigh-Cary, Durham and Chapel Hill being largest, making it up. We live in North Raleigh in Wake County. Ed works for IBM at RTP and teaches for evening grad school around the Triangle so he might be helpful too.
Let me know if I can help you by getting more specific or PM me
Raleigh/Durham is a great place to live... Your problem won't be the weather (humidity), it will be which one of the many many wonderful communities you will choose to live in...
Think... NC State.... UNC...and Duke within 20 miles of where you will live.... They call this the "Triangle"....
To me, it would be dependant on the whole money picture, and, how secure the new job was/is. A minimum of $25K to $30K a year bump up would be the minimum I'd move for in income. AND, if the wife would be pumped-up and digging the move. My youngest Brother couldn't get his wife to move 5 miles to a better neighborhood, in to a paid for home twice as big and worth almost twice as much. If the wife ain't happy, it ain't worth it. Not in my book, anyway.
Raleigh is a great area. But to get better more reasonable prices on homes you need to look outside of the general area, more to the country.I am about 35 minutes outside of the city in Johnston County and if you can commute you will save big.Wake County is experiencing a lot of growth which puts strains on schools, utilities, etc.Feel free to PM me with any questions.Good Luck!
Well we should know more in the next couple weeks. It would still be about 9 months out or so, the facility is being built. I'm sure as I know more I'll be sking more questions.
