I think that being able to buy direct is great. But it does look fishy to have new members constantly come up with praises for direct dealers. Specially one that has been RVing for 20 years, and this is his fourth RV and is still a new user here. I can see how it does make people kinda wonder if it's the dealer posting the messages.

Shills or not - and I suspect some of the newbie posters with glowing RV Direct posts are just that - I have never seen a negative post about RV Direct. Not a single one! I got quotes from them and their price was thousands of dollars less than the local dealers.

Like it or not, buying direct is the wave of the future. Who on Earth would elect to pay more, for the same exact product, when they don't have to? The business model is changing, and direct sales is all about cutting out the middle-man. I didn't buy from RV direct but, were I buying new, they'd be on my short list.

l_RV2 - Appreciate your comments. I've looked at several dozen Toy Haulers this winter, in the Mesa and Quartsite, AZ areas, and received the best price by far from RV Net. I take your comments at face value and especially the ones about uneven site, etc, as I'll be installing a Hensley Sway Control before I tow on the interstates.

Purchasing from Local Dealers is fine if their price is competeitive. I've worked all of my life and still don't have extra money to give to someone who has his products marked up 50% to 100%. In my opinion that's an obscene markup/profit.

As far as Warranty work from a Local Dealer, it doesn't fit into my lifestyle which includes being on the road for 6 months a year, a thousand or more miles away from the "Local Dealer". Problems usually arise when I'm on the road, not when the RV is back home near the Local Dealer.

The Local Dealer I purchased my current TT from, was one of the nastiest, rude, crude, etc. Businessman/People I've ever delt with. I didn't know this at first, as I worked with a salesman who was top notch. I wouldn't go back to that Dealer if he set up a business next door to me and gave me a free TT. (Well, maybe if it was free )

I agree. I don't recall seeing any negative posts about RV Direct either, and there are several posts on here that are definitely actual satisfied customers.

If my dealer hadn't matched the RV Direct quote, I would have seriously considered purchasing from them.

Ok...just call me gullible, naive, etc....still trying to get used to the humor here. I should have figured that the message about Tibet was a joke...sorry!

If you had met me before, you would know my humor is a little dry. I tend to make outlandish comments with a straight face. Hard to do that in an online discussion environment.

YES, TIBET was a joke.

Sorry if I actually made anyone nervous. :-)

#4. RV Direct asks for a deposit when you place the order, and full payment when your rig goes "off line" at the factory. That means you've paid in full before even laying eyes on the trailer. (Factory pick-up was not an option for my Jayco trailer.) I was a little bit nervous about this ... but since my entire RV DIRECT purchase and communication had been so positive, complete and low-stress, and the NET was full of positive feedback from prior RV DIRECT customers, I felt comfortable with the arrangement. And I was right.

No way would I pay for a trailer that I hadn't seen. There is no way that I would pay when the trailer was "finished" from the factory.

There are way to many horror stories of brand new trailers having problems.

Here I thought RV Direct would be a good alternative to RVW for me since it is so close to home. I didn't get far enough with them to find out they require full payment prior to seeing the unit. I was able to buy locally and save money over the RV Direct and RVW prices so it was a no brainer.

Good luck to all of those that use RV Direct, hopefully as they grow they will change their policy towards paying in full before you see the camper.

RVW has a policy that you have to pick up in something like 30 days or you have to pay X amount to store it on their lot. RV Direct is going to be billed from the factory something like monthly so they wouldn't be paying interest on your camper if you picked it up promptly...

Jeese ...

Just got back from a Central Illinois state park one-night in new trailer campout in heavy rain and hail ... we had a great time organizing the trailer ... and found a fire storm over my delivery report.

To those interested in my Direct RV experience, thanks ... and please PM me for more details or questions.

To those who "polluted" the post with off-post comments ... well, life is too short to have such tight shorts. I don't need to read your grief.

I'm a newbie here for several reasons ... new email address, forgotten passwords from long ago ... and spent most of my time on other websites with much friendlier people.

Good grief ... as Loopie pointed out ... I've posted several other questions and comments over the past couple of months in other areas.

I'm a life member of Good Sam's ... a decision that has more than paid for itself over the years ... my wife and I have always owned small travel trailers, because I'm disabled from polio as a child.

We decided to get a bigger trailer to be able to take our grandkids with us on occasional trips. We're not 100 percent sure I'll be able to handle it ... but hey, life's an adventure.

And yes, I thought some might be interested in my experiences in RV Direct ... as a disabled guy, I need to save as much money as I can ...

And as far a local dealer service, since my wife and I are on the road for 100's of nights a year ... I'm always far afield from a local dealer.

If you are a true RV'er ... you'll venture far from your home town. It's hard to have a Peoria dealer service you when you break down in Fort McMurray, AB.

It might surprise you nay-sayers that the world is not flat.

Direct RV has an 800 number to coordinate service in the US and Canada.

Jayco has an 800 number in case you need service on the road.

You nay-sayers need to get a life and get on the road. Get away from home once in a while.

Every heard of Travel By the Road? Or Happy Campers?

No, I didn't think so. The ones who flamed this thread were probably still in diapers when those were the hot websites.
