We have been looking at generators for our trailer tent. We have visited a few shops and heard the various generators running and we ruled out most of them for being too noisy.

We heard the Honda EU1000IC today and were quite impressed - however, the sales man said the max amperage is 7.5 - would this be enough to run the fan on the furnace?

The shop also have the EU2000IC in stock but we think it might be a bit noisier and its $400 more expensive.

Anyone own/ have any experience of either of these generators.

We don't expect to be using much electricity - just a few lights and the furnace fan.

Thanks,

Vicki

Lights and furnace are 12 volt and do not take much power. The 1000 will easily run them. Although the 12 volt items are powered through the converter and if the converter is rated 45 amps (12 volt side) or less the 1000 should be fine.

I agree that the 1000 should do the job you want done. Make sure that you have the water heater and fridge on propane. I have a pair of the 2000 watt Honda generators. I rarely use the parallel setup. One will run the M/W or the toaster or coffee maker. Works well for us. Good luck with your decision.

Just remember that your really on 12 volt lifestyle; not 120 volt with a 1000 watt genset. No hair dryers, drip coffee makers, microwaves, etc.

And while the furnace does draw 3.4 amps for the fan that's at 12 volts, so the actual draw on the genset @ 120 volts is apx 1/2 an amp.

the 1K will do the job for you, I used one for many years before I got my 2K. the 1K still runs good and use it as a back up.

Go for the 1000. It will do everything you need and is considerably lighter in weight.

I used to use a Genrac 1000 (Which was kind of conservitive rated) to run my 12 volt systems, it could feed a PD 9180 with wizard and batteries that were DEAD and I mean DEAD (So it was cranking out the full 80 amps) When Honda says 1000, they mean 1000, (I think the genrac, though rated 1000, was closer to 1200, in fact I often tripped 10 amp breakers with it, and tha't is 1200)

By the way, you might check out the Yahama, it's 1200 too.

I've had the Honda 1000 for three years now and I love it...very quiet, light weight and it runs for about 10 hours on .6 of a gallon of gas..I always run it on the slow speed and it takes care of my lights in the motorhome, furnace and television with all of them running at the same time..I also charge my battery if needed...In fact my wife and I can't even hear it running while it's in operation..Can't say enough about the unit...We're very happy we have it...

The beatiful MONSTER that takes my wife and I anywhere we want to go...2005 Jayco granite ridge...Overhead entertainment center, slide out, and a snowmobile trailer that pulls 2 four wheelers in the summer and 2 snowmobiles in the winter..Life is great!
