I just received my two(2) $40 coupons in the form of 2 plastic credit type size cards. (not negotiable for cash or credit.)

1. They expire 6-18-2008. How will I know if I need the boxes until Feb.17,2009 when things change?

2.They provide a list of retailers in my area where I can get the boxes, but there is a list of no fewer than 35 boxes to choose from. Now I have to figure out which box to get?

Government intervention is great.

Be sure you keep your cards and receipts in case you need to return the boxes in Feb 2009. I bought my from Walmart as they are pretty fair to work with.

You most CERTAINLY will need the converter box IF you receive your television signal from an antennae and do not have a digital tuner on your television. If EITHER of these things do NOT apply to you, no need for a converter. Satellite service or cable service will not require a converter regardless of the type of television you have.

It is pretty simple. If you are now receiving television broadcasts over the air using rabbit ears or a roof antenna and an older TV that does not have a digital tuner, and intend to continue doing that after the transition, you will need the boxes. If you get your television from cable or from satellite you will not need the boxes.

I think you will find that all of the converter boxes are pretty much the same. Consumer reports did a preliminary report on just three of them, including the Magnavox that WalMart sells. The rated the Zenith DTT900 as the best of the three. They reported that it had slightly better features than the WalMart model. They will have a more complete report soon.

I am looking at the RCA model from WalMart. I helped a friend install two of them the other day and they are pretty user friendly. One misconception that my friend had, was that they were not able to be used until 2/2009. You can start using them today as most stations in the USA are already simulcasting in both Analog and Digital. Once he saw the picture from the digital box, he decided to start using them now.

On another note, if you start using them now, you can fine tune or update any antenna/cabling components now to ensure that you get a good/usable signal before the big rush in 2009.

Good Luck.

How will you know if you need the converters... That is easy.

Ask your television.. Is there a "GUIDE" button? Does the TV have the ability to tune to say Channel 20.2? (or 20.1 or 20-1) or does it just do 2,3,4,5,.....60,6162? (i think it goes to 69) if the answer is yes to the last option, You need a converter box. THAT SIMPLE

I just plugged in an INSIGNA, it does not pass analog and it puts out a somewhat smaller picture than standard (though it is a good sharp clear picture and given the place I have the TV looks good) I got to so some playing to get things the exact way I want them though.

I ordered on January 4th, and just got mine a couple days ago.

If you go to the coupon status page, not only can you check your specific status, there is a schedule showing when you can expect delivery based on when you ordered.

Edit: Looks like TennesseeBob beat me to the link by a couple minutes.

Guess I will rephrase my topic.

Will my antenna that I have on my RV work without the box ? I know my TV's will work with my satellite dish and cable connection.

Which brand of box should I buy ,or doesn't it matter?

It's been a month or so for the coupons to arrive.
