Will check with Monaco but what is an oil recommendation for a 400ISL Cummins?

CUMMINS "recommends" ( ahem!) their preferred oils made by Valvolene which are "Premium Blue 15W-40..OR..Premium Extreme Blue which is a SYN 5W-40. And to them it makes no difference since with either you are supposed to do your oil / filters changes per their instructions ( same intervals for either)

Having asked semi truck engine rebulder which oil is best... At a million miles those using Delo 400 have very little buildup. Shell Rotella T is next with a slight amount. I buy Rotella T at Sam's by the 55 gal barrel. Last two barrels of Rotella T I paid $250, should have bought more as they are now $500. Fortunately oils have improved to where in a DP it probably makes no difference as long as you use the right spec oil.

Just be sure that the oil has the API classification called for in the engine manual. You are looking for something on the order of CJ-4, CH, etc. You shoul dbe able to find it on the label of the container and may include some other classifications such a SK, SJ.

I run Rotella T synthetic in EVERY engine I own. gas, diesel, big or small. It is approved for all.

That's what I use on my ISL and I do my own oil changes.

The last time I purchased Rotella-T synthetic at WalMart, it cost $13.85/gal, but I would imagine that it has gone up just like other oil products. If it goes to high, the Cummins ISL will go back to regular Rotella and the PSD and GMC 5.3 will be the only ones getting the synthetic Rotella.

What is the 5W-40 Syn oil that you use. I have not seen any oil with that much of a weight spread.
