We travel fulltime. I just traded in my truck for a new one (yeah!).

My problem is I don't plan on driving back to TX for a while - 6 or more months. I have a 90 day tag on the new vehicle. Can anyone tell me what I can do as my 90 day tag runs out? I will be in the Pacific Northwest, so driving the vehicle back to TX would be quite expensive.

Any ideas?

The key question is: have you payed some state agency a sales tax yet? and registered it there or filed a title application? I think you should contact TxDot title division, get a title transfer or apply for new title. Pay the TX sales tax and it'll be licensed in TX. Maybe stop by a dealer and ask what the procedure is. All this should be able to be done thru the mail or over the phone.

superflatz, I bought my truck and my TT both in AZ and have them both registered in Polk County TX.

Just call the tax collector's office in Polk County and explain your situation. The clerk there handles these kinds of situations daily, He/she will send you the required documents by mail or fax and will explain to you how to fill them out.

If you should make an error on one of them he/she will help you to correct the error.

You do not have to have the state inspection done until you return to TX.

I think some counties have tag renewal online. Not sure you can do initial registration online - but maybe? Also why not just call the county office and see if you can do it via mail - you would have to make copies of insurance, etc. and send with your check - then they could mail you the tags. You are in Polk county ? why not google vehicle registration for Polk county, Tx and see what you come up with. good luck

We just did it, this is exactly correct assuming you have a Polk County address (like Escapees mail service).

We bought our truck last year in GA. I filled out forms for tag transfer that were located on FL state/county website. Sent the check for taxes and tranfer fees and they sent me new registration and a refund. The dealership sent their forms to the county office.

The year before we did nearly the same thing when we traded the 5er in on a new one. But we were in NC at the time and that dealership gave us the Title to mail in with their check for the sales tax. Same form from same website was used.
