Please help me feel confident!

I am bringing my TT down to Indianapolis to go to a MotoGP weekend. So I'll be there Friday night, Saturday night. 3 or 4 days total, probably 2 or 3 nights.

It has a 30 g fresh water tank (but the towing vehicle will have 100g fresh water tank brought along). I have an 80gallon waste tank (so the brochure states).

I'm thinking of renting a generator as we'd want to relax and watch tv and stuff. It has two LP tanks, that should hold for 3 days of fridge, cooking and possible heater use, no?

We are bringing a BBQ, and there is a portapotty (hopefully reasonably close). So I'm planning on skimping on the water use, but I do wish to be comfy.

So what will it cost to rent a quiet 3500w generator for the weekend do you think? And am I missing anything else? There is just two of us in the trailer for the weekend, but we like technology, so we'll have the internet going, watching satellite tv when the race isn't on, etc.

Mikeyxx,

First, I would confirm that you have an 80 gallon waste tank. Good luck.

I also wonder about the 30 gal. fresh vs. 80 gal waste. That seems way out of range for normal. Another comment is why you want to bring 100 gal. of water with you. Assuming US Gal that is 800# of extra weight and if it is imperial gal. 1000#. We do have water available here in the States and most of use it. Before renting a generator I would make sure they are allowed. Many places restrict or prohibit generators. Unless you are coming in summer and need AC 3500Watts seems rather high. It does get hot in Indianapolis in summer. You should also secure that generator so it can go back home with you. Many people like to help themselves when they see something they like. Enjoy your trip.

You probably have a 40 gray water and 40 black water holding tanks. You are bringing more water than your tank(s) can hold. Unless you have a method to dispose of the gray water, you can keep some of that water home.
You'll be more than fine with propane.
A 3500 watt genny will be more than enough to power everything. Try to get a Honda or Yamaha invertor type of gen. A typical 3500 "contractor" unit will be rather loud and you don't want to miss the sound of GP bikes.

Thanks for the replies. The brochure here says "Fresh Water Capacity= 30 Gal" "Waste Water Capacity= 74Gal"

Yes, I guess my ignorance is obvious, I don't appreciate the size of a Gallon. I've grown up with Liters. So I was told on another forum that I should be good for the 4-5 days without bothering with the extra water> I like to shower (2-3 minute) once a day, and I assume the fellow I'm going with would do the same. Then we have washing dishes and making coffee and stuff. They will have portapoties but I appreciate the fact they will get icky and I'll probably keep to mine (sending my buddy to drop his "kids off at daycare").

The generator won't be a contractor type, I don't like to empose on others so I wouldn't want a loud generator disturbing people. The camp site's rules state that "Loud generators must be turned off during night hours".

You should be fine with your propane.
Take military showers - wet , soap up , rinse - don't leave the water running.
Thirty gallons lasts the two of us three days easily -showers , cooking , clean up and bathroom use. It does take a little practice though.

The only problem I see is you may run out of gray water storage space. Do you know where you will be camping, most times at large dry camping locations for your type event they will have a pump out service. So they could empty your gray tank. Check where you will be camping.

Also remeber if parked next to someone else the place you are staying may not allow the use of the generator if you are parked right next to someone else because of the fumes from the generator...

I've never been to an event like that but I would suggest you buy or borrow a carbon monoxide detector. If the rigs are parked close you don't want to get gassed out or worse by your neighbors genset exhaust.

The webpage does say that "Load generators to be be turned off during night hours". So it looks like the generator is good. It's a first come/first serve camp ground with absolutely NO SERVICE. WHen I say camp ground, I think it just gets mowed and that's it. What about draining my grey water out the back, if it's shower water, is that good or bad on the environment?
