Katuna, I went to the shop to tow it home and discovered they had jack-knifed it and broke some welds, so I left it there after venting on them what I had learned here. I left it there for them to repair the welds and pick it up tomorrow.

I never mentioned 17 years old. The trailer is a 2000 so it's at least that young.

Sorry, CMartin7143 said 17 years and I thought that was your post. Regardless, your unit is at least 8 years old and still not worth repairing. BTW, Dometic/RVP all will replace a complete unit under warranty if there is ANY leak in the sealed system. They have determined, it cost more to repair than it is to replace the upper unit. Doug

Doug,
I'm also a 23yr Dometic OEM and they only tell you not to tap the system while it's under their 3 year warranty! Yes, it's cheaper for them to replace it because it costs them $166.00 to mfg. a rooftop HP....

Wow, Nobody wants to fix anything anymore! OK, just send all the real work overseas so we can sit on our a**es and get fat..

Good Luck

Well he just dropped it off and split without talking to me. I don't know what the message is there, but I hope we're still going to be able to do business.

My son just replaced a start capacitor on a roof AC. It was done under warranty but would have cost $225 ($75 service call and 1 hour labor) or more if not under warranty. Seven plus year old unit without warranty help and at least 3 hours before parts you are close to half the cost of new already.

Not to hyjack the thread, but since there seems to be quite a few refridgeration techs contributing, I need to know if it is legal for me to sell a full tank of R-12 which I have. (eBay?) It is still in the original box-got it from my father in law.

Hi Scott,

It's contained and your not dispursing it.. Your in no trouble!

I just don't know who would buy it because there are replacement gasses that proform much better then the old R-12 and alot cheaper.

Good Luck
