We stopped at FlyingJ a bit ago in Tallahassee, FL and they are no longer giving a propane discount. They now say the only way to get a penny off is to spend $10.00 in the store or restaurant. Duh, that would only be worth it if you were going to already use that service. We have eaten there but I want to decide when and where I eat, not FlyingJ. I don't have any need for anything in their store. They did say that if you spend, I think, $300.00 a month or something like that they will also give a discount but that only works if you have a motorhome, an extra tank in your pickup or are going to be in an area for a whole month where there is a FlyingJ. Just isn't going to work for us anymore. I will say that over the last year we have seen a decline in:
The pumps, especially propane, working or even giving a receipt which makes you go inside and wait in line thus holding up others behind you waiting for fuel. Mention something is broken to them and they just shrug
Overall friendlyness in the attendants inside and out-though the outside workers are better. I want to point out that I ALWAYS start with a smile and a "how ya doin`" even if something is wrong.
and finally the overall appearance at their pumps and other areas had just gone downhill.
I have taken the time on ocassion in the past year to call corportate just to see if they were aware of certain situations but have always met with an abrupt "Yeah, thanks for calling, we'll check into it". Goodbye
Just my thoughts but after 12 years just don't think we'll patronize FlyingJ anymore.
There are a lot of us RV'ers out there and if the majority of us went elsewhere maybe they would wakeup. Diana

While I agree that a discount is nice, I doubt there are enough RV'ers, or to put it another way, the volume of either gas, or diesel fuels bought by us, warrants the company being leveraged by us not patronizing their stations to continue the discount. A penny a gallon, unless you are on the road 24/7, really does not add up to much. I actually preferred the points towards an occasional lunch stop! I'm sure the majority of their sales are to the commercial truckers anyway.
It would be nice is the Good Sam Club could do more to improve the discount at PETRO Stations. I've used my G.S. discount a couple of times, but it is more time consuming, because you have to present your cards first, pump your fuel, and then return to the counter to sign the ticket, pay, or get your change.
Lets just admitt it. The fuel retailers have it over us and they call the shots. Our choice is to pay it, or park the rigs!
The new card gives you 3 cents on gas, propane and only a penny on Diesel on a $10 purchase. It really does not go up to much on Diesel with a max of 4 cents with $400 purchase. Gas and propane goes from 3 cents to 30 cents. This is right off the new card information. The discount is determined by the restaurant and merchandise purchased each month before you next fuel purchases.
I alway's thought a .01 cent per gallon discount on diesel fuel was kinda silly anyhow. We burn approximately 1500 gallons of diesel fuel per year. A .01 cent per gallon discount saved us a whopping $15 last year. I stop at Flying J for the quality fuel, their RV fuel islands, and for stopping overnight; not for a penny a gallon discount.
As for going to another retailer, have you stopped at a "TA" or "Pilot" lately. You talk about sewer hole's!!!

Under the new system we got 15% off on our food. This is much better then the $.01/gal. If you use the commerical card, which I also have, you get a free coffee or soda and a free shower with 50 gal.
The only advantage that is still worth it to use the card when you are filling up is that you will receive the cash-price even if paying with a Credit Card, that usually amounts to 5 or more cents per gallon. We like the pumps on each side when filling up on the truck side due to the fact that we have 2 50 gl tanks on our TV and it is impossible to get them both full at a one-sided pump.

With twin 150 gal tanks (last fill up was 265 gals) it's the truck islands for us and I agree with Crickydog - most of the Js are the cleanest I've seen out there. Like anything else, there are exceptions.

IMHO, all the big retailers are dumps...including the ones mentioned, Loves and Flying J. I find the mom and pop places that sell lots of fuel. Usually they are less crowded, cleaner with nicer folks using them.
