What do you mean they don't allow German Shepherds. Do they not allow dogs or just don't allow certain breads of dogs. We have a German Shepherd and she travels everywhere with us and it would be nice to know. I have never heard of a campground that doesn't allow German Shepherds.

Thanks for any info

If you head to Destin for dinner, try Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin. Go to the "village"(free parking), there are several places to eat(from pizza to prime rib), candy stores and unique shops. My wife and kids(9&7) love it. We ate at Poppies on Sunday and will probably head back over today or tomorrow for pizza.

It is also East of Destin and you would have about half the drive, than actually going into Destin. You may regret going all the way to Destin. The traffic is unbearable at times, it has taken us 45 minutes to go five miles before.

Drive up HWY 30-A and stop at the little Village of Seaside and Seashore. The have a small grocery that reminds me of the old days. The shelves for can goods goes up to the ceiling. You aren't allowed to drive through the residential area but you can walk as they have walk ways between the homes, it is really neat. When you get to Santa Rosa there is a Restaurant named Goatfeathers really nice and a local place called Elmo's great Grouper. Just past Elmo's is TopSail Hill State park The people at Emerald Coast was the people that developed TopSail and the State bought it from them.

It's on their website. They allow dogs but they are breed restricted. Our gentle calm German Shepherd travels everywhere with us also.

There are also a TON of mosqitoes here. We haven't been able to sit outside after dusk at all. Tonight we wanted to give it a try so we sprayed some OFF yard guard, lit some citronella candles AND sprayed everyone with bug spray and we STILL were all bit up. I have about 10 bites just on my ankles. It gets dark earlier here than back home because of the time change so it feels much later than it is. Around 7:30 it's dark and we have to go in to hide from the bugs !!

The bugs are not bad yet. Anyway the problem is that what is bitting you are noseeum's. Little black flying bugs that are very hard to see (hence the name). They do like ankles and there is really very little that will stop them. Just wear white socks and spray them with OFF and that will help.

LilDarlin,

We were at Three Rivers state park on Lake Seminole this past weekend and the mosquitoes were swarming everywhere. We used REPEL lemon/eucalyptus repellant and it worked great.

Great pics, it looks like you're making the most of your trip. If youre backed up to the zoo though, that might not be the paper mill you're smelling.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and tips everyone. Boblegab- your pictures are nice....I love the idea of an ice cream truck. We live out of town so our kids only see ice cream trucks on tv !!

The sun is out this morning and it looks like a nice day. The kids and I all have patches of sunburn despite having applied it 3 times yesterday !! I think the sun is much stronger here than we are used to. I'm going to look for some SPF 200, ha ha !!

My husband went to the store for some aloe vera for the kids and depending on how they are feeling we may go over to the zoo behind us. It's not very big...less than 10 acres and it looks mostly shady so it would be a nice way to spend a little time this afternoon. I think the gocarts and mini golf will have to wait until late afternoon/early evening when the sun is lower.
