I just started driving my "new" 2007 Chevy diesel pickup a couple of weeks ago and I have noticed that the engine temperature, when towing nothing, has crested 212 degrees F. This seems warm to me but then I am not sure where a diesel should be. We are driving it with any towing down to Florida in a couple of weeks so I guess I will really see it then but does anyone have any comments on where the temperature should be?

My Duramax never gets to 200, even when towing. The trans will run about 100 over outside temp.

I am going to book this with my dealer to take a look at it...any ideas that would cause it to run as warm as it is?

It's not running warm that's normal. 210 is the normal operating temp. I thought the same thing when I first got mine.

Gauge could be wrong...fan clutch no good...low on coolant....water pump low function..restricted exhaust. Good to have dealer check it out, at least get it on record.

That is not abnormal at all. There are two thermostats in your engine. The first one starts to open at 183 and is fully open at about 205 or so. The second one starts to open around 195 and is fully open at 213 i believe.

My 04 Duramax runs at a constant 210-212 whether emptly or towing. If I go up a long upgrade while towing (6-8 miles), It will get up to 220 but the fan kicks in and it comes right down.

I even replaced both thermostats and it still acts the same way exactly.

Agree. My 2008 D/A runs at 210 no matter if towing or not, cold outside or hot. It's normal.
