Correct, payments are made to an email account. I'm well aware of the scams going on out there but this one has me a little puzzled. He is not asking for an account number, he's asking for an email address associated to a paypal account, which is how paypal transactions occur. Unless they attempt to discover the associated password once they have the email address, or they make a purchase with a stolen card number. I find it comical. I replied stating it was no problem for me to wait to ship until he returned. I also mentioned that it's a small world as I'm originally from Italy. I asked him what part of Italy he was headed to. His response is that he lives in West Africa and to kindly forward the account email address. He's starting to get pretty forward.
Yes it is an old scam and as long as there are greedy people out there, there will be people ready to take their money. Just remember....it is too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true.

Most definately a scam... And yes it still goes on, and in many forms. When my Grandma passed, we found that she had been contributing to some "charities" for years. Only about $5.00 a month, to save some animal or another, but there were about 8 of these various "charities", and all were from out of country. On checking, we find out that these "charities" pocket about 99.9%... They are making a killing, and it is all done through snail mail. More than likely, they were all inter-related. They find someone to contribute to the first one, then hit them with a bunch more. And, it's just $5.00...

The Nigerian scammers (and quite a few in the Balkins these days) are very much alive, well, and still finding suckers. Just pop in to the eBay boards US, UK, and Australia.
Too many novice sellers get overwhelmed by greed that someone is offering them $2000 for an item they know darned well is worth more like $400.
Most of the Nigerian ones are done by contractors working from internet cafes. They get paid a little for each sucker they can get to respond and when they receive an item, will sell it for small money to whoever has hired them.
If they can't get a bite on using a phony escrow company, they often will pay using a hijacked paypal account. When the real owner discovers the problem (and especially if they use a CC to back up the paypal account) the money is taken back so the sucker winds up with no widget and no cash.

Ok, someone please explain, how does the OP's scammer work his scam? You can give out your email address, he pays, you send item. I have been selling online for 10 years and have never had a problem. Yes, I have had scammers contact me, but they look for passwords or that overpayment scam of course. But I don't see this in the original post.
They're a lot more bold than just the OPs spammer...my travel agency got a call once, from someone claiming to be deaf, usuing the California Relay Service (the TTY service for deaf people to call Non-hearing impaired individuals)...wanting to buy a ticket from Lagos, through either Copenhagen or London to New York. I told him he would have to go to the airline counter at the airport in Lagos.
