This is our first trip with fith wheel, we have some places we want to go but need some advice on planning. We are going to last week of may for one week, then up to breckenridge for 2 weeks, wife wants to go up to green river, wyo for a least a day then up to yellowstone and stay 2 weeks, then glacier for at least 2 weeks, maybe down to black hills. Plan to be back in Texas by Sept 1st, so all above can be moved around. Looking for good places to stay in between. It is 500 between yellowstone and glacier. We like history, hiking , rivers, quiet, wildlife. Thanks to all for input

Sounds like a great summer plan! If you're staying in/near Yellowstone and Glacier for 2 weeks, you'll probably need full hookups or dump stations for at least some of the time. CGs within YNP don't have any hookups, except for Fishing Bridge, and they are likely to be booked for at least some of the 2 weeks you plan to stay there. You might enjoy the park from different perspectives by staying in several different CGs while there. I would suggest reservations for Fishing Bridge, Bridge Bay, Canyon, Grant Village, or any of the private CGs in the area. Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone gets good reviews, and there are also a KOA and an older private CG in town. There are a couple parks outside West Yellowstone in MT and ID that are within 25 miles of the park's west entrance, and which some folks on the forum like.
Wow, What a great trip you have planned. We took a 6 week trip through the west last fall. While at Yellowstone we stayed at Gardiner Montana which is at the North gate of Yellowstone. Very quaint town with easy access to YNP.
After leaving Yellowstone we stayed 2 nights at Deer Lodge Montana. Great old territorial prison museum there. Campground was just a place to set up and sleep with full hook-ups. Unfortunately we did not make it to Glacier as we headed on west to the coast
On the way back to Indiana we stayed in Green River WY. Nice little western town but not much in a campground. People were nice but not much in the way of amenities. We also stayed in Rawlins WY. Another really neat old west town.
Have a great trip.

I live in Utah, I have been going up to the Yellowstone area every year for nearly 40 years,PM me and I can give you RV park numbers, places to see outside the park etc,and you will need to start getting some RV reservations pretty quick that place is popular. We already have RV reservations for July. There is one RV place on the Yellowstone River outside the park that would be very nice.
It is going to take some planning to do it right. Trailer Life Mag. has a nice software program that plots the route for you and gives you mileages to different cities. If you're a newbe, you will want to pace yourself. It will take you a good hour to set-up and another hour to take-down. Probably the best speed on interstates is 60 mph, for safety and fuel consumption. If you're taking some back roads, you'll do good to average 40 mph. Keep in the right lane and don't worry about what's passing you, they're not dragging a 5 or 6 ton house behind them. If you just purchased a new trailer, you will probably have some glitches to take care of - most of us did. This can wipe out a day easy. We try to plan on making around 350 miles per day. This allows for stops for food and rest. Then, look in the T.L. or Woodalls books for campgrounds in each over night stop area. Don't remember if you stated the length of your TT, but if it's over about 32', you will have a hard time getting into many state parks. Also, few of the state parks full facilities (water, elect., or sewage). I understand the parks inside Yellowstone are primitive. If you like "roughing it", you'll be fine. We don't, so we're planning on staying outside the park (this fall). Also, you will need to check as to when Yellowstone parks close. Most of them close in the fall. Best advise, take it easy and have fun.
The only downside could be 'high wind' warnings, but other than that - smooth sailing! Have a wonderful trip.
If you plan to see the Badlands, there is a campground in "Interior, SD" which would be nice for viewing the Badlands at different times of the day. There are prairie dog farms (might not seem like much), which are pretty neat for all ages. While in the Black Hills, Rapid City area, enjoy 1/2 at Bear Country - you will love the antics of the baby bears.

I agree 100% that the Rafter J Bar ranch is the best. We stayed there last summer. Great campground in the middle of EVERYTHING in the Black Hills. You can take day trips every day and always have somewhere else to go each day. The staff is wonderful, the sites are a good size and your neighbors (OF COURSE!!) are always wonderful in the campgrounds. It was a very pleasant experience. (Just beware, though, that the altitude is a little higher so you don't need as much wine or other libations to feel tipsy!! ha!).
Wow, I envy you. We took a 2-3 week trip last summer to YNP, Glacier, and Black Hills. I would've loved to have put in the kind of time you are going to.
We stayed at Grizzly RV, Glacier Meadows, and Rafter J. My only advice is to start planning immediately! Do a search on these forums and you''ll find tons of good info. Also, talking to the managers/owners of the places we stayed gave us some good local info as well.
