Hi everyone,
Just purchased our first towable camper, 5th wheel toy hauler, and have a question about leveling at a site. Should I carry along boards or should I get some of those plastic stackable blocks? How many of each and what size would be sufficient?
Thanks

We just carry three 2 x 10 x 6 foot boards. We cut 2 foot off of three 8 foot boards, then cut those pieces in half to use under the legs for stability.
Pull in and position yourself exactly where you want to be, check level, pull forward 6 feet, place the proper number of boards behind the tires that need raising, and then just back up onto the boards.

We carry 8 2x10s cut to about 15 inches long. We can use them under stabilizers and under the tires to level out the coach side to side. We only need 8 because we I never stack more than one under the stabilizers and never more than 2 under the tires.

This has been discussed previously. Search this forum for `leveling' then search the results for `boards'. All the answers are there.

You will get a lot of opinions. Do what works for you. I started with boards, and many of them broke. The Lynx levelers are lighter, easier to store, and very easy to get just about the correct level. You get use to them they really work great.
While I'm in storage I use timbers to keep the tries off the ground where there is moisture.

WE also use both; depends upon the need. I like the boards better. I find them easier to see from the TV. "Course I am only 5 ft. tall and have to position the seat & mirrors differently than 5'10" DH and when we are setting up he doesn't really want to wait for me to reposition the seats etc. and then he tries to get back in and doesn't fit. Also wider boards 2x8 are easier on the tires.

I have used the Lynx levelers on 4 different 5er's now and think they work best for me, a lot lighter and easy to store. You can get them at Wally World for under $30.00 and will last a long time. However I do have 2x6's cut in 1 foot lengths in a stack of four with a handle for the rear electric jacks. And will make a set for the front but will use 2x10 in 1 foot lengths so as not to let the front Hydraulic jacks out so much, yes I use the Roto Chocks so the 5er will not move. GBY....

Lynx levelers have been just the ticket for me. Fairly inexpensive at Sprawlmart, and lock together great for different heights. One package has worked for me so far, but have thought about getting a spare just to have in case.

Ditto on Lynx levelers. I have used boards also but prefer the Lynx. They lock together nicely which boards won't do and they are very light and easily stored.
