I am considering buying extended warranty for my 2008 Rockwood Roo 19. I am being offered a 7 year package for $1400 which includes practically everything, including road side assistance and no deductibles if the repairs are done at the dealer I purchase from.
There are a lot of opinions on this subject, so as an advocate of buying peace of mind I wanted to find out from those who have purchased extended warranties for their TT, how often have you had to used it, is it really worth it, what types of repairs have you encountered, and any other useful info you can share.

We purchase an extended warranty when we bought our Pilgrim in 2005 and have yet to use it. Probably in hind-sight, I would not have opted for the purchase and just banked the money. If we do have something major go wrong with the trailer, it's there as a fall-back.

Extended warranties are a big profit-center for the dealers. I have heard reports that they may receive up to 50% of the selling price. I have not confirmed that claim.

I would buy the optional Forest River 2nd year warranty from the manufacturer directly, it's $150.

These 3rd party warranties are a money maker becuase A) they are overpriced and B) they don't cover nearly as much as they exclude.

Your appliances already have 2 year warranties from the manufacturer's and since Forest River has the option of the 2nd year warranty I think you'd be well covered.

Save that money to pay down the trailer or get some usefull camping gear or pay for gas, etc.

It may be an option if you plan on camping close to the dealer all the time.

Don't like the view?? Then change it and Go Camping

The extended warranties are only worth it if you are buying a used unit. At least for us, we bought the two year one and have already replaced the fridge, microwave, furnace and awning. Has paid for itself twice over.

I bought one w/ our Mountaineer.
1. Haven't used it...
2. Had such a terrible experience with the dealer after signing the papers that I wouldn't go back there if you PAID me...

In hindshight... I wouldn't buy it again

Best advice I ever read in regards to RVs ---
Get a repair manual and learn to do it yourself.

I have yet to have an experience with ANY service department where I've left feeling like they did a great job.

Good Luck!!!

In just about every type of extended warranty, the selling person or company gets a 50% commission. Buying extended warrantys over your life time is not cost effective. If you would just bank the money everytime you are offered an extended warranty you will have a much better retirement. Even if you you use this savings to pay for problems.

$1400 is Excessive for the purchase of a warranty. We bought a Forest River Salem LE. Well 3 of them to be honest and the last model 2 years ago was 1st year free than you get a warranty cars=d with an offer to buy extended warranties at a reasonable price. It was something like 119 for the next year and 399 for 4 years extra. I will know more as we are receiving our 2009 Salem Le 30bhbs. Good trailer for the price:-) Good Luck
