I cannot believe this thread has lasted to 5 pages. I too will be getting a jayco from rv direct. price difference of 5k not including the additional tax cost. I have to make a trip to NY anyways so I will be picking mine up in albany ny from FL.
I purchased a boat 7 hrs from home. Same story about local dealers when I was shopping for my boat but no local dealers sold the brand I wanted. I have had to take my boat in several times to make repairs and all dealers were more than happy to service my boat and be paid by manufacturer.
If I am lucky then I will not have to use a dealer for service work until after the 2 yr warranty is up. At that point then I decide take the time out and do the work myself or pay. I have lots of tools eventhough I have a desk job. I just like the satisfaction to fix things myself.
With the economy the way it is dealers are not selling a lot so I am sure they are salivating at service work. I have not bought a vehicle locally but I get great service from local dealers as well. For some reason we have had to buy a new vehicle each year b/n the wife or me since 2001. Hopefully my last purchase in June and november of 07 will be the last one for a while.
Still wonder why some are against others saving so much money from an internet dealer. I offered the local dealer 1k above the rv direct price and he laughed.
Like mentioned before, it is not rocket science to fix things on a trailer. Just like my home, there is nothing I break that can't be fixed.

Our Dealers are as a rule, independently owned and operated businesses. Outside of those customers they personally sold products to, they are not contractually obligated to perform warranty service on Forest River products that were purchased elsewhere. There may be an occasion that you would be required to return to the point of purchase to satisfy warranty requirements.."
That is why I will never buy a Forest river product! I would not own equipment that has no service behind it. I buy tires at Kal Tire because my account is good across Canada. I buy kenworth trucks because the service is equal thru-out north america. I would have bought my jayco at any dealer that would be most cost effective. Does the fact that I drove by three dealerships closer to my home to where I bought the camper make me wrong? Jayco will approve warranty at the shop of my preference so I will appreciate their product. A dealership that snubs me for where I bought the camper will never see me in for parts, service, trade or leak on the place if it was burnin up!

I have never bought from RVW,,,yet. When I am ready and if the have what I want,,, I WILL.
The lack of warranty support from non selling dealers is a bunch of bunk.
What if I buy a unit here in Arizona and shortly after am forced to relocate to another state? Should I be penalized? Why?
The auto industry doesn't work that way. Wherever you buy your Chevy, the warranty will be cheerfully honored at any dealer.
Personally, I don't have much use for a rv warranty anyways. If I'm home and the TT needs work,, I have an awesome set of tools and will fix it myself. Easier than towing it to the dealer. If it's a major problem then I would fight it out, but doubt it would be necessary.
If I'm on the road (which is where I would most likely need service) then where I bought it would be irrelevant.

I searched individual brand sites to look at floor plans and then went to rvdirect just to see what they had available. After communicating with them and getting a price, I went to my local Jayco dealer. He couldn't come anywhere near what rvdirect offered us and we told him of the lower price and he still diidn't come close. SO - I found the rig that best suits our family at a very good deal and yes, the service at the Albany RV Direct was amazing. I will purchase my next rv from them, too.
Nope, I'm not a paid advertisement, just a teacher from Long Island who likes to make an educated decision.
For what its worth we bought our new Jayco 29X locally, went to our dealer found the trailer, they gave us there price I told them what RVDirects price was. They came back and matched it plus the diff on some other upgrades. I am very happy with the dealer, and will obviously go back, but I would have taken the drive to Des Moines if they hadn't come down on there price.
Glad to hear the good reviews on RV Direct. We just signed for a 2009 Jayco Eagle 322FKS. We went to two local dealers and explained we were educated buyers and looking for their best price. The first was over $4000 off and had yet to include the price of several of the options we wanted. When we told him how far off he was he offered to cut $400. The second dealer told us he couldn't match the best price we had due to us wanting a 10 gallon water heater as adding an after market would void the trailer warranty. Turns out that starting with the 2009 models, a 10 gallon water heater is standard. We feel we got a good price and have been impressed with how easy it has been to deal with RVD. Yes - we will have to drive to Albany to pick it up - a 3 hour drive each way is very much worth the thousands of dollars we are saving!

Austin,
I am glad you had a good experience. But, in the limited time that I have been on this forum, many of the RVD cheering posts sound alot alike.
I include your in this group as well. Basic structure of the post, things posters choose to mention. There are a lot of similarities in writing style including the use of the return key. I consider all of the new RV purchases and how people choose to mention them. I have seen few (to none) mentioned from other sources with similar writing styles.
Again, this is one of those things that make you go... Hmmmm!
Ah, finally, a forensic English teacher cracks the case.
Yup, all of us happy RV Direct purchasers are, in reality, the same person.
Good grief.
For the life of me, I don't understand why you RV Direct naysayers have to flame all over the many, many positive RV Direct posts.
Before I purchased from RV DIRECT, I searched the internet high and low ... looking for both positive and negative posts about RV DIRECT.
Aside from one of two "oh, you won't get any service" (obviously from someone who was just speculating and not an actual RV DIRECT customer who experienced such problems) ... ON ANY INTERNET SITE ... not just this one ... there are nothing but POSITIVE reports from all kinds of RV DIRECT customers.
Now, someone claims to have compared our writing styles in an attempt to discredit happy RV DIRECT customers.
One of those things that make you go .... Hmmmmmm.
