We are heading for eastern South Dakota in early August for a wedding and are making a vacation out of it. Any recommendations for good state parks or COE campgrounds?

You might get better answers if you were a bit more specific!

There is a big COE cg near Pierre at the bottom of the Oahe Dam. Can you tell us exactly where in eastern SD you will be?

There is a lot of territory between the north and south edge of eastern SD.

Safe travels,

Aw Shucks, he's from TX. Thinks distance from southern SD to northern SD is the same as from the southern Houston suburbs to the northern suburbs

I agree, where in eastern SD? Several good choices around Sioux Falls and Mitchell, and in between, but more specific info re: wedding location would help.

If you're thinking of finding a nice spot before or after the wedding (but not during), you might look at the SD SPs. We haven't been yet, but friends in Sioux Falls like a couple near them.

Wedding is in Sioux Falls. A 3 hour drive or less to the park is desired.

Palisades, Lake Vermilion or Newton Hills SPs are all within easy reach of SF. Popular on weekends, but weekdays should have sites for you. Elec hookups available.

Craig
There are five nice campgrounds near Yankton SD, which is about an hour drive from Sioux Falls. Big Sioux Recreation area is near Brandon SD, about 15 minutes east of Sioux Falls. If you want to be sure to get a site, better book it 90 days in advance, as they fill up every weekend in the summer...TJ
