Those who have stayed at Lake Murray State Park, of the several camping areas, which would you recommend for a 35' 5er? And why?
I am thinking we would want to stay somewhere in the vicinity of the lodge, restaurant, and marina. But having never been there, I really don't know.
Our favorite camping area at Lake Murray is Buzzard's Roost.
It offers the finest of night time views, with Wild Bill's old stone house on the promontory across the water. It is lighted with foot lights. It also houses an interesting museum, which is accessible from water and by road.
Daytime the marina is reminiscent of the Mediterranean coast of France. The marina is home to every type and size of boat and welcomes transient boaters as well.
The hangers-on who will gather around are a mixed bag of society, ranging all the way from billionaires to vagrants.
The point of campground nearest the lake is for tent campers and popups. A little bit removed, but a short walk, there are hookups,
W/E.
It is also not too far from the lodge and restaurants, if one needs those.
We like Elephant Rock , full hookups (30 & 50 amp.), paved sites & very clean. Cedar Cove is alongside this section w/ just water & electric , 30 amp. only. Both the hosts in these areas are very nice and helpful.

Elephant Rocks is our favorite. Huge variety of camp site types available with everything from W&E to full hook ups. Nice level sites either feet from the waters edge or in the full service area. Most ANY PLACE on Murray is nice though. Great area.
We stayed in the Rock Tower area, it was secluded and a little tight. Next time we plan to stay in Elephant Rock which is spaced out a little better, and closer to the action.
The hike / walk up to the top of Tucker Tower is well worth the view from the top, and it makes a great place to take some pictures and checkout the water views. The folks at the Marina were very friendly and our son had a blast feeding the fish off the Marina docks.
There are some neat things in the area that are worth a day trip, like Turner Falls and the Arbuckle Wilderness area a little farther to the North.

Check out my signature photolink and you'll find a bunch of pictures from Elephant Rock campground at Lake Murray. It's about a 3 minute drive to the lodge and marina plus it is very convenient to the golf course. My pictures show the individual campsites along with the site numbers. Unfortunately OK state parks are not up on modern technology and you cannot make reservations at that campground since it's first come first served. Excellent place to go.
