Looking at buying a 2008 E1. Wanted to hear what modifications have been done or recommended...I would like to put some kind of skid plate on the bottom to protect the water tank, and I am sure there are others too. Pics would be awesome too! Thanks for your thoughts.

Mike, While I've not had an E1, I've had both an E2 and E3. Click on "My Pics and Mods" above my signature picture to see some of the mods I've done.

Hi Mike,
I bought my Silver E1 last fall from Motor Sportsland in Salt Lake and haven't changed it much from stock yet. I did mount dual 6 volt batteries and a Yakima rack on it. I highly recommend the battery mod if you think you are going to boondock. I also picked up some Lynx leveling blocks for those sloped campsites.
I was concerned about the water tank, too, but as it doesn't hang below the axle I think it will be OK without an additional skid plate. Still, it's something to think about if I'm looking for a future project.
I plan to get a porta potti and a small outhouse tent so I can sever the last ties with developed campgrounds.
I got just three trips under my belt before the weather turned too cold (including an incredible late-fall trip down to Moab), but the experience has been great so far.

Thanks for your insights. Have you been happy with Motor Sportsland? Thinking of purchasing from the same place. Thanks for the battery idea...My wife and I don't do campgrouds, so that would be very benefical. This trailer seems like it would be a good one for camping in the middle of nowhere. We are thinking about solar panels too.

My experience with Motor Sportsland has been excellent, both sales and service.
We found some dealerships got a lot less enthused about our business when they found out we were JUST looking at tent trailers (Ardell Brown, I'm looking at you.)
On the other hand, the salesman at Motor Sportsland (ask for Doctor Phil) probably spent an hour with us the first day we where there looking. He was just as helpful on our second visit.
Service has been spot-on as well.
As far as tow vehicles, I'm no expert. Others here could probably offer better advice. My Nissan Xterra, with a 4.0 liter V-6, handily pulled my trailer over Soldier's Summit on Highway 6 at 60 m.p.h. I haven't done Parley's Canyon yet, but I don't expect any problems. I use an Equalizer Hitch and can barely feel anything behind me.

Hi Ron.
Good to meet another E1 owner in SLC. We just bought an 06 E1 (our first PUP) this week. I can't wait to get out in it.
I'm interested in your battery mod. Do you have photos of how you have it set up? I'm picking our's up tomorrow morning and will probably adding a second battery soon as most of our camping will be done away from campgrounds.

Replacing a single 12 volt with two 6 volt batteries is a common and easy mod.
All you need are two 6 volt deep-cycle golf cart batteries, two battery boxes, a length of battery cable to go from the positive terminal of one battery to the negative of the other and enough room on the trailer tongue to mount the whole shebang.
You can do a similar thing with two 12 volt batteries mounted in parallel, but there are advantages to using 6 volts.
I'll try to get some pictures of my setup this weekend.

Have you checked out Sam T. Evans in Ogden for prices on your E1. I bought a E3 from them last June and I found their prices hard to beat. I have yet to have much experience with there service department but I will find out soon when I take my trailer in next week for some minor warranty issues.
I am located in Riverdale and I am looking for any info or advice from local campers on possible nice camping spots to go to early in the year before the snow melts in the mountains.

Antelope Island on the Great Salt Lake is one of my favorites for early-spring camping. Be sure and check out the Fielding Garr historic ranch.
I've also primitive camped out at the Lakeside Mountains a couple times, it's a great place for fossil hunting.
And there's always Southern Utah.
