Valdez Eagle's Rest RV Park. No real landscaping but incredible views all round very clean, everything works including the free WIFI. Best of all a Pot Luck Salmon fry tonight put on by the park's owners. Oh and the Sun is shining don't know if the park made that happen.

Hi all! Nice visit with ak-traveler - great "inside advice"!!! Nice time in Fairbanks - off to play again for a couple days - then down to Denali for next weekend! Sorry, can't help with Ft Nelson, we came up via 40 into Grand Prairie. In Watson lake we used the Downtown RV park - pretty much a parking lot with hook-ups, but VERY clean and hospitable, free RV wash, too! Would highly recommend them! Did use a couple pull-outs along the AK Hiway - worked fine for us. In Whitehorse LOTS of folks at the Walmart - looked more like an RV park, but we used Pioneer RV park - reasonable, good discount on fuel right there - but can't recommend the shower arrangements! Did stay 2 nights (it was cold, rainy, snowed!) - if you go to Whitehorse you REALLY should see the "Frantic Follies" show in town - Laughed for 90 minutes! Well worth it!!! ST

We stayed at the Westend RV park last week. It was ok, kinda close to the highway, but they had plenty of sites available. I think it is one of the older parks (at least it sure seems like it). Given another opportunity I think we would try one of the others.

If you're going on to Whitehorse, better make reservations as far in advance as you can. We didn't and found that most were full. High Country and Pioneer both full...had to stay at Mountain Ridge which is just a line of 12 spaces where the slides almost touch each other. Pioneer isn't any better (but a lot more sites), and has cheaper fuel (3 cent discount).

Hope this helps

For those of you heading up the highway, what kind of RV traffic and crowds at the campgrounds are you seeing? Up here in Anchorage, is seems like we're seeing fewer out-of-state RVs and I haven't personally seen a single caravan yet.

We are in Downtown RV in Watson Lake and going to Whitehorse for a few weeks tomorrow. For those of you still coming this way we can heartly recommend Muncho Lake Lodge RV Park site 1 to 4. These sites face the lake and the snowcapped mountains and the caravans are around the corner. I hear the Provincial Park a few minutes North is great as well.

Up until we reached Whitehorse, the traffic was very, very light. We would go for miles and not see another vehicle in either direction. The rv parks (again until Whitehorse) were close to 50% capacity (if that). Never a problem in finding someplace to stay.

However, once we got here in Whitehorse, we found that the rv park of choice (High Country) was full for the weekend. We headed back to Pioneer and and found the same thing there. We settled at the Mountain Ridge park which is also a motel. Their sites are VERY close with absolutely no vegetation what so ever. It is all gravel which (unlike High Country) does keep the mud down (been raining alot here the past couple of days).

We're heading for Dawson City tomorrow and will probably stop at Pelly Crossing for the night as we plan to spend a little time in Carmack's.

Made a toad trip down to Skagway yesterday and had a great time. The drive was magnificent and the train ride was also great. Fantastic food at Poppies' (Jewel Gardens) on the outside edge of town. Highly recommend it. Probably should have taken the motorhome down and stayed a few days....

I finally have seen a few out of state rv's this weekend. But parks are not full except for us locals on weekends. no problem getting a space. A friend of mine went unannounced to the kenai this weekend and had no problem getting a space. I've seen lot's of empty spaces around anchorage today. Heck, even the walmart has parking space this year.

We arrived back in Dawson Creek, Saturday the 21st and it is packed everywhere - all RV parks and every parking lot. We know of 5 big caravans that should hit Whitehorse this week. One with over 50 units. So not sure how that computes but the road getting here was very busy as well. Phoning a day or two in advance for a RV site would help.
Good luck and good travels, sure want to thank everyone for all the great advise and help along the way, It's been great will look in often to the forum.

They are all in the base and post campgrounds. We drove through them last night and they were full.
