We flew home last night with a return ticket for 4 weeks out to let them fix it. Living in the Motor Home spoils you for anything else, so we will finish the Alaska trip after it's fixed. See you guys in a month or so.
Bummer! No fun having to deal with major repairs in the middle of such a big trip. On the last corner before the home stretch here. A few days in Yellowstone then a dash across country back to MD for us. It has been quite a ride.

That's too bad Hjudge49...I hope the weather up here holds out long enough for you to return and pick up your rig and still have enough time to see some of Alaska. 4 weeks from now will be cutting it close, but one never knows!

Hey Kathy... we seem to be lagging behind you. We are now at Stoney Creek and have been for the past four days. Heading tomorrow for Kenai and then on to Homer for a few days and then back to Anchorage for some more repairs before heading on to Valdez. Thanks for the heads-up on the Bear Paw phone number. How is the road from Anchorage to Glennallen and on to Valdez? Do you know if the road from Tok to Haines Junction is still rough?
While here at Seward we did the all day Fjord trip.... fantastic viewing of glacier and wildlife...not to mention a good salmon/prime rib buffet . No bears here at Stoney Creek as someone previously posted.
We will climb the Exit Glacier today and maybe take the bikes into town for some little exercise...

Hjudge49 ... end of August and early September are, in our opinion, the best time to visit the North. The fall colors are starting and the landscape takes on wondrous new look. Many tourist attractions close in mid-September so watch your timing if you stay a bit later. Denali typically stays open until sometime in 2nd week, so you will have time to visit there too. Just keep it in mind.
We've RVed Yukon in September many times and twice in December. You'll have no issues that way, as long as you're prepared for slightly chillier nights. The days can be great -- clear and sunny. The roads are usually in good condition after all the summer repairs, there are few bugs, and traffic is lighter.
We actually took in Denali in the Toad after the motor blew, and checked out the South end or Parks Highway and down to Seward before we fly home, so we are ready to drive to Montana Creek and fish, then go directly to Seward, Kenai and points South as soon as the engine is replaced. Fortunately, we are retired and I don't have to be home until October 1st, to get ready to go on a hunting trip.
Ron, and anyone else heading along the Glenn Hwy., there is a night time closure from mile 92 to 96 (or there abouts), reopens at 6 AM, so not really a problem. It is gravel, but not bad. The ride is twisty/curvy, but if you stay at or below posted speeds, it's a great drive.
I can't say the same for the ALCAN from Tok to Haines Jct!!!! Yes, it's still bad, awful, nasty!!!! Just take it slow, the construction through Destruction Bay is still going on, but once you get past that, the road improves tremendously.
We are in Haines, picked up our ferry tickets today for our Th departure. We will be on and off ferries from 7/23 until 8/5, we are looking forward to this portion of our trip. Anyone else going southbound???? be safe, Kathy

Thanks Kathy, I'll keep your advice in mind when we head over in that direction.
We pulled into the Beluga park at Kenia today and have a really nice spot overlooking the bay below us. Lots and lots of people out in the surf trying (or maybe.. are) to catch salmon with huge nets. I can't tell if there is more than one person per net, but those nets are big enough to catch a small orca in.
We are planning a halibut fishing expedition down in homer next week...maybe we'll catch the BIG one.
Have fun at Bear Paw and catch some pinks/silvers for home.
Got the word that the new cummins is on the way from Portland to Fairbanks. The shop thinks we should be ready to go sometime in the first week in Augusat, so maybe we will catch up with some of you guys.
