san diego is a great, you can easily drive to all of the southern ca attactions., Im surprised las vegas has not come up yet, it is one of our favorite non rv destinations, everyone should check it out at least once, its still a lot of fun even if you are not a big gambler. How about Key West Fl, another great place to visit. Is Cancun Mexico an option? another great non rv place to check out.
Funny you mentioned Las Vegas because the free airfare also came with a free hotel room at the "Venetian Resort Hotel-Casino" there, but we live in Houston and airfare by Continental airlines is pretty cheap to Vegas and American Airlines doesn't have a direct flight. We figured it would be a waste to use the tickets for that destination.
You all have a lot of good ideas here. I have had several people mention the far N.W. and will look to see what to do up there. We took the kids to Disney World last year so I don't want to repeat that again.
Unfortunately for my wife, I've already been to a lot of places and travel frequently. I was wanting to see something new myself but will let her make the final call. I've been all over FL, NY, CA, (and everywhere in between)Montreal, Toronto, week after next I'm going to Winnipeg and rounding out the month with a quick trip to Atlanta and Philly.
When I think about this, these tickets are stressing me out because it is only putting more work on me! BUT... The wife is excited about the possible adventure.
I need to get the packet from them to see what Mexico destinations are included. That might be something new for both of us.
I would agree with the Pacfic Northwest. You could fly into Seattle, out of Portland? Rent a car, do the coast, Mt. Hood, Victoria, Vancover, much more.
We went to the Iberostar Grand Paraiso Resort just north of Playa del Carmen in Mexico last November. It is a NEW all inclusive ADULTS ONLY resort. It is high end and somewhat pricey. Awesome food and top shelf liquor. They treat you like royalty. The rooms are very large suites, each having a balcony or patio. It is part of a 5 hotel complex - the other resorts are nice too - a little cheaper but not adults only. We chose the end of November because it is off season, but most of the risk of hurricanes is over. The weather was beautiful.
If I had free air tickets I would immediately go there again. (I would go there again even without free air...) It would help justify spending the money on the resort.
I like the pacific northwest also. Lots to see and do. I would go to Portland. From there many trips are possible ranging from the coast to volcanoes and the Columbia River gorge. Whatever you decide, have a great trip.
Depending on your interests (mountains, water, historical?), if I could go anywhere I'd choose Sanibel Island Florida. It's the most relaxing place with fun little restaurants and an "old Florida" feel; not to mention it's one of the best shelling beaches.
