Just got finished servicing my generator on my class A. Onan of course. Changed the oil and fuel filters. Sure wish that Mr. Onan had to crawl under the MH, flip open the bottom door on the generator, squeeze his hands inside the generator compartment and change the filters. Wrenches have to fit in the little hole also. Seems like the human race should be able to engineer easy change filters. Maybe the backyard mechanics should design this type equipment instead of design engineers. Yea, I know, if all were easy then we would not need mechanics. It is still frustrating. Anyway, I'll probably fuss again the next time also. Thanks for allowing me to vent.

That's why GM builds their front wheel drive cars so you have to take the entire front right suspension off to change the altinator....so you can take it to THEIR service department!!!!!!!!

Mine's completely the reverse. It has very easy access from the outside and there is plenty of clearance underneath for me to change out the filter and drain the oil. I guess that some manufacturers make it more difficult than others. But then just imagine if we had to have it serviced by someone else. The amount we save would probably pay for a night or two at a nice RV place.

I have the same problem with my Onan. Do they have a special tool to get in there? I thought my hands were just to fat. I guess that's just part of owning a Repair Vehicle.

Had the same problem with Power Tech and the Cummins filters. Found an adjustable belt wrachet filter wrench at Napa that fits all size filters. Worked like a charm-threw away four other filter wrenches.

Well the oil filter isn't too bad. Just a little messy. The fuel filter has an inlet and outlet line that have to be disconnected with wrenches. Why couldn't they just design a spin on fuel filter....oh well....I enjoy doing the work myself, just a have to ask "Why did they design the system the way they did?"

With the exception of maybe ForeTravel ( and Im not saying they DO..but it sure looks clean in the engine, etc compartments to me!!) I dont think ANY of the coach builders employ someone in the capacity of "maintainability". Didnt matter how good the design was ( in my old occupation) if it took a tech say 8 hrs to swap something out ( while it was under warranty... ..) It was back to the drawing board.
Last time I serviced mine ( Power Tech) I also changed coolant. Looked and looked for a drain hole?? Even called CC and sat on my step stool as the tech support guy told me it just drains thru the hole in the bottom of the compartment!..( ) When I told him "aint no hole"...he gave me the old DUUHH...must have been the last coach made on a friday...lol. I ginned up a drain system from some 3/4" PVC pipe and a couple of elbows..

Gee, it's easy to change filters on my Onan, No problem at all.

After servicing the generator/main engine on sailboats for years...the one in the motorhome is like working at a bench with a bar stool!!! I used to have to hang upside down in the engine compartment for hours, then visit the Chiropractor the next day!

I just had the oil in the motorhome engine and the oil in the generator changed. It cost me $360. Boy was I in shock after getting the bill. Next time I will do it myself.
