I am looking at a 2002 20C Coyote hybrid travel trailer. Does anyone out there have an opinion on how long the "tent material" on the pop-out KZ sleepers will last under moderate use when allowed to dry/air out before storage?
What happens if stored outdoors vs under a roof storage? Will water get to the fabric when towed in the rain or while parked with the pop-outs closed?
Thanks,
Jim

In our HTTTH the canvas stays dry when pop-out is closed.
When towing in normal rain it stays dry. When towing in monsoon we get a little moisture thru hinge area.
Don't know how long it will last, sorry. Our Eureka tent lasted over 20 years with no leaks.

Thanks for the heads-up! That sounds like an expensive annual maintence item. Approximately what is the cost of the replacement? Do you install it yourself?
I have also looked at an older ('90) 22' Hi-Lo which weighs almost exactly the same but doesn't have near the sleeping space. After your comments, I think that I will go with the Hi-Lo as I have a V-6 '02 Ram 1500 and an equalizer hitch for a TV. The wind resistance on a heavier '77 Terry really worked the V-6 but the suspension of the Ram was perfect. It tracks without any sway what-so-ever.

most of the canvas/vinyl tent material has a 5-6 year warranty.
some of the older hybrids have problems. KZ has had some issues and had to change suppliers. but they seem to have stood by their customers.
as far as i know, a few of the other brands have had some problems. but most have had none. popups have been using the same type of tent ends for many years.

I had an 1986 24' StarCraft that was used no less than every other weekend during the summer, and camping Feb> late October. When I sold it to a friend in 89' it looked like the day it was bought. My big complaint was the plastic windows that would stick together. Fixed with Talcum powder. Treat it right and be careful...

We are putting new ends on our 2004 coyote 22 this spring due to the corners ripping (see thread on bunk ends) Most people have had this problem KZ is aware and helps some people but not 2nd or 3rd time owners. Our screens seem to be shreading as well but I think that is from the UV of the sun. Our pop up we had before had new bunkends twice in 5 years due to problems with zippers and seams. It seems the older stuff works better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

Depends on how well it's made. Our (Starcraft) tent ends lasted 2 full seasons with lots of use (and plenty of rain) - haven't yet opened it up for this year yet, but don't expect any problems. We had a PUP, also a Starcraft, into 17 seasons on the original canvas, no problems.

I bought a 70's vintage Starcraft PU in the mid 80's and had it for 17 years. The canvas was original and it was still in great shape when we sold it.
The key to long life is taking care of the trailer. If you are careful when you set it up and you are diligent in making sure it is dry before storage, it should last a very long time. The poster who said he replaces his every year has something very wrong going on.
